Annoying Windows7 Problem - Advice Please

Posted by: Ron Brinsdon on 30 March 2011

Why does my Win7 keep flashing back to the desktop when moving around websites and spreadsheets? For example, when I started this topic I moved into the "Title" box and it went back or I can be filling in a form online (such as opening a new account for a purchase) and as soon as I move into a new box, back it goes. Sure, it is only very temporary and a slight mouse nudge fixes it but sometimes when in fast typing head down mode I can be 4 or 5 characters ahead before I can correct it!

I have looked online at the MS help areas but have not managed to enter the right search string yet so I am turning to the collective wisdom...............

Many thanks

I remember having that when I first got Win7, I've managed to get past it, but I'm afriad I can't remember how...  Not a helpful comment(!) save for the encouragement that there is a solution, and that if I can find it anyone can, cos I'm a complete computer dimbo.

Probably one of those "helpful" features.

I really must sit down and figure out how to disable the "feature" that makes windows expand to full screen when you try to push them off the edge out of the way.

Are you on a desktop or laptop. The reason I ask is that I was given a new works laptop recently (was Dell, now HP). For a while it seemed to be doing strange things, especially the cursor moving round at random, a pain in the backside when writing documents. Also, it would stretch and reduce screen sizes. It turned out to be a very sensitive touchpad that I would touch with palm/wrist momentarily when typing. Disabling the touch sensitive (double click and resize feature) actions of the touchpad sorted it.

Not sure whether this last posting was directed at me, but ...

I use a laptop, but have disabled the mousepad and use a mouse - much nicer when playing "Plants vs Zombies"

I have the jumping back to the desktop screen problem on both my "full size" PC at work and my home laptop. I do not like using touchpads on laptops and have always plugged in a mouse.

I am convinced it is in the settings somewhere and will try to have another look later.

Thanks for the replies

Win7 Problem - I think it is now sorted

Did it by unticking the "Enable Aero Peek" option

What's that then?

No idea what it is for - I just started looking at the options in "settings" and this one mentioned something about "peeking" at the desktop which sounded like what was happening by default so it got zapped.

I did set a restore point first so it is reversible if I need to.
