Apple TV to DAC to 282 - no /op
Posted by: C P on 08 January 2015
Not sure if anyone out there can help, but I've just invested in an apple TV device to stream from my Macbook to my Young DAC, then direct into my 282. Set it up using the TV, then unplugged it and plugged it via toslink into the back of the DAC (Not interested in the TV bit of it). Can't get an output at all. Running Quobuz on the laptop, changed the output of the Laptop to "Apple TV", but zilch. Any ideas?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Seriously: I use a similar setup and the Macbook somtimes just does not want what I want.

Thanks - tried that but to no avail.

solved - switched qobuz output to "Core audio: airplay." Sounds v v good.

Why did you get the appleTV over an airport express?

another common cause for 'no sound with Apple Tv':
apple TV > settings > audio > dolby digital
dolby digital must be turned off, because a Naim 2 channel hifi DAC cannot process a home cinema 5 channel signal...

Hi gari
Ignorance. The TV seems to do the job very well though after initial difficulties.

Any reason why the Airport Express is any better? I always thought it inferior to the TV...

Broadly for audio its exactly the same. Neither are massively good and you can't do any hidef through them if that was a thought.

Thanks, Gary. I guess convenience and price are plusses, but thats about it. Easy to set up too, if you have a Mac...

Quality is good. Listened all night (282/250.2/Supercap DR, Young DAC) and I can honestly say the streamed quality is as good if not better than the direct connection to the laptop. Streaming Quobuz, as I have been doing for the last few months.
