Using Mu-so with Pioneer TV

Posted by: Rotterram on 09 January 2015

First time post so be kind ....  I have a question.  We have bought a mu-so and used an optical connection to Pioneer Kuro PDP-508XD but no sound is coming out of the mu-so.   So far my investigations have found that I need to switch off the Dolby and switch on PCM but don't seem to be able to do this.   Can anybody suggest how to best solve this issue?

Hi, I don't know if this will help, but when I tried to connect the optical out of my Kuro to my Uniti Qute 2  there was no sound. I found out, from the manual, that the optical out is automatically disabled when you  connect an HDMI cable to the TV. The only way around this as far as I can work out is to insert an HDMI audio extractor (de-embedder) between the HDMI cable and Kuro and take the optical out from the extractor (de-embedder) to the Qute. I haven't tried this yet as its not too high on my list of things to do. If anyone has another way to do this I would be very interested to know.

Thanks Rotterram/Oldgit for the update. The Kuro manual does say

Note: When signals are input from the HDMI terminals, no signals are output from the DIGITAL OUT terminal if they are copy guarded.

I confirmed the following with Oppo support.

Connect cable box into Oppo (say 103D) and out into Kuro using HDMI.

Connect the DIGITAL OUT from the Oppo to mu-so.

This allows audio for both sources (cableTV and DVD/BD) to be heard via mu-so.

You could do this with your TiVo or similar unit.

Q: Can anyone recommend a HDMI switcher that takes 2/more HDMI inputs and puts 1 out that works well?

Think Rotterram is looking to go straight from the tv to the Muso and doesn't mention a Tivo or similar in the chain. Could be wrong but your suggestion sounds valid if i'm wrong.
