Naim muso power cable

Posted by: Shuai Ma on 11 January 2015

Just got an naim must from an naim dealer, like other hifi gear, change power cable sometimes can makes change for sound. I am very interested in are there someone change his Naim muso's power cable? If yes, do you have some suggest and give me some experience for this?

It looks like a pretty standard 'Figure of 8' connector so you've got a few options. Seems a bit pointless to do this on a Muso given its intended role but each to their own

Plus its a SMPS so fettering mains cables is a bit pointless - IMO of course

- but I dare say someone will say different   ............ night & day maybe

I'm sure RA will have some ridiculously priced item that will turn a Muso into a 500 system.

I'm using an inexpensive Isokinetic cable because

1. it was lying about unused

2. mu-so comes with a really horrid cheap plastic "turn it into a plug for 100 countries" connector, like something you'd get on a £20 USB hub

it's the only thing about it that is a disappointment so far and while I know it's built to a price, a plug is hardly expensive guys, why let yourselves down like that?  Make it £899 and supply a cable with decent plug for chrissakes, £4 on the price is hardly going to put people off.

No idea whether it makes any difference to the sound cos the horrid supplied cable went straight in the bin.

Hi Olly,

Do you have some particular brand and model for muso's power cable?

Due to a very very poor quality for the power cable come with naim MU-SO, i suppose it will make a difference by changing power cable. Its very disappoint for naim supply such a poor quality power cable with mu-so.

What makes you think it's very very poor quality? Is the electricity leaking or something?

Why not calm down, dig it out and give it a comparative test against what you are using?

I rather like it, certainly not a cheap-looking lead to my eyes. And if you really think popping an expensive mains lead on your Muso will make an ounce of difference, you really are living in cloud-cuckoo land!

That'd be a shocking development!

It's in my post, but frankly I don't think it makes any difference, just pick something with a fig 8 connector you like, if (like me) you don't like the supplied lead.

Haf

I have no interest in comparative testing power cables on my mu-so.  My objection to the supplied cable is, based on past experiences, that these multi-territory connectors are fragile and prone to fail, meaning you need to source a replacement at best, jamming up your sockets at worst.

Sonos provide a £180 Play 1 with a proper 13 amp UK plug moulded onto the powercable. There is absolutely no reason why Naim can't do the same for mu-so - IMO the fact they don't just makes them look like cheapskates.  I'm not irate about it, but it's something I think they deserve to be criticised for and it's certainly not aligned with my perception of their brand values.
