Naim App Album Art Problem

Posted by: SWW33 on 12 January 2015

Hi all

Naim newbie here !

Just got myself a lovely UnitiLite which is absolutely wonderful but having some problems with the Naim App.

Having found a ripping package (dbPoweramp beta for Mac) that created a 'Folder.jpg' image alongside my FLAC track files, I finally managed to get the icons of the individual track files to display the album art when selected within the album on the app.

However when I'm a level up selecting albums, no art is shown just a basic folder icon.

My library is structured Artist/Album/Track and is currently hosted on my iMac although will soon be moving to a NAS.  UnitiLite firmware and App both on latest versions.

Can anyone help me get the app to show the art at album level please ?!!!

Cheers

What upnp software are you using to serve up the files from your Mac?

Hi Simon -- welcome!  The album art is governed by the particular server, not the Naim app.  The Naim app only shows what the server sends to it.  The server SHOULD be sending album art that shows up for the album itself and not just individual tracks, but it sounds like it's not.  I'd go into the server settings and see if it is set up to look for art named folder.jpg   That is a standard name, but it's worth checking.

What server are you using??

Cheers,

Bart

Check your files' tags and make sure  album artwork is appended to the files.

It is very likely a tagging issue. On the PC version dBpoweramp offers a right click facility to edit tags. Don't know if the Mac version has an equivalent.

+1. I use dBPoweramp and .flac format. There are no folder jpegs at all on my system and all the (expected) art appears where it should. If a single flac file in a ten track album is missing art this tends to upset the NAS or app, and art will not show on album view (I suppose as there are then more than one potential covers, a void or one of nine identical covers) once all the files agree on data, apart from obvious stuff like trackname, trackpos, composer etc all is then well. Missing art usually alerts me to other metadata errors that need ironing out, so in some ways can be helpful!

Hi Simon

I am a Mac user (iMac) and now use PLEX Server for Mac. The artwork and other metadata is second to none. It is a FREE download. Try it with just with a couple of albums, to see if it works for you...if you don't like it, bin it.

To rip, I use XLD.

Art view in the album/folder/artist view is a function of the Media Server (UPnP)  -  some have it - some don't

Asset, Minimserver & Plex I believe all have the ability to show art

Personally I prefer to have the folder icon

Guys

Thank you all for your prompt support here - very much appreciated !

I seem to have got there in the end simply by rehosting my libary from the Mac to my new NAS (a WD myCloud) - this seems to have rectified the issue and I now get a full complement of album art where needed.

Thanks specifically too to a couple of you for mentioning Plex - its brilliant !  It has solved another challenge I had streaming video to my TV.

Now I can get on with enjoying my lovely UnitiLite  !!!

Cheers
