mu-so Mac desktop UPnP control point
Posted by: Verimage on 13 January 2015
Simply, is there such an desktop app that would let us control what we stream into mu-so. The n-serve sadly doesn't work, and it's a drag to always have to use the phone app ...
Thanx ahead
You might be able to run the Naim app on your MAC under an iPad simulator, such as iPadian. I've not tried it.
But that sounds like to ugly for 21st century computing hehe
Does Kazoo work?
I tried but seemed not to be able to find the "room" unfortunately ...

Kinsky? I dont own a mu-so but I'd think (guess?) that any 'generic' upnp controller would at least see both your server and the mu-so.
Kinsky say it, but the problem remains with volume control ...
Why not just use the app? It works perfectly well and does what you need. How can a desktop be easier than an iPad? You seem to be creating an issue where none exists.

Hi Rene,
I just noticed that you said n-Serve doesn't work with your mu-so, right?
n-Serve is an app to control Naim servers and is not the right app for mu-so.
If you use the Naim app (the one with the Naim logo on black background) this will work with your
mu-so no problem.
Hope this helps.
Hey ChrisH,
thanks, I am using the mu-so app on mobile of course, but I am looking for a desktop app ...
I guess it's because I'm sitting here with my iPad, controlling the system perfectly well, and thinking 'why would someone want to use their desktop?'
In any event, they can't.
You could always glue the iPad in a vertical position on the desk.

Rene, the desktop version of n-Serve contains many many more features than the iOS version, including the ability to set up and run server backups, force re-scans of the Shares, etc. etc. You are definitely a salmon swimming against the current in wanting to control from a computer vs. a portable device, but we all know that there is no single solution that fits for everyone.
There is qutecontrol on the app store, don't know if it works for muso but could be worth a bash.
I can understand why Rene would want to do this. Especially when working on a laptop. As Garyi says, there is QuteControl which I use on my Air and works well, but maybe the guy who created it can say whether it would work with Muso

Agreed. It's a pleasure to use nServe on the Mac ; I really like the popup that announces the start of each new track. Having the same thing for nStream / Naim App would be neat.

I have Qute control. It sees my UnitiLite, but not the mu-so.
Thanks to everybody answering something at least remotely related to my simple question.
For the rest, there is a simple trick around since the stone age, and some claim it is golden ...
You can use JRiver Media Center.
OK, I got Qute Control controlling the mu-so (just type in the IP address under "Preferences"), but it is very, very basic.... But if you don't mind playing albums by selecting one track at a time, and not having any playlist function... and don't mind buggy volume control...
I installed JRiver for Mac and managed to get it to see the mu-so, but the learning curve to get to playback is just too steep for me. Screen resolution is not adapted for the MacBook retina...
Yep, the latest version of the Naim app on the iPad is slick and a sheer delight to use !

You could try Asset UPnP. It is a wee bit buggy on Windows, I dont know how it will work for Mac.

Yes, there is no elegant solution ... Proper volume control is essential.
Well let's just wait what Naim will come up with next. Kinda hope of some kind of n-serve mu-so app merger. Buying an iPad just to control mu-so is a waste especially for someone with a device clutter aversion ...
Jriver app is also quite, let's say, clumsy and unfriendly.
Thanks for your contributions again!
jRiver on mac is not a pleasant experience and a lot of money.
I tried J River on my Mac for a bit, but it was 'orrible. Maybe they've improved it recently?
Unfortunately, jRiver is, at least on Mac, a ugly dog of interface design and user experience ...
What nas are you using? On Synology if you use the audio station app that will give you control from your desktop but as others have said the naim app is still better on ipad.
