mu-so Mac desktop UPnP control point

Posted by: Verimage on 13 January 2015

Simply, is there such an desktop app that would let us control what we stream into mu-so. The n-serve sadly doesn't work, and it's a drag to always have to use the phone app ...

Thanx ahead

I installed JRiver for Mac and managed to get it to see the mu-so, but the learning curve to get to playback is just too steep for me. Screen resolution is not adapted for the MacBook retina...

Yep, the latest version of the Naim app on the iPad is slick and a sheer delight to use !

I've just had a play with Qutecontrol, and yes, it's basic, but I thought it was fine for controlling your music when your iPad/phone isn't to hand. It's a bit like the OS X feature where you can access calls and messages through your Mac if your iPhone isn't to hand.

I couldn't see any problem with the volume control, and it plays a full album if you double click on the first track.

Would Plugplayer for Mac not suit your needs?

Yes, QuteControl looks fine, but I have a problem figuring out how to add music to it. Apparently it is connected, since the iPhone app tells me that "another app is using the device". Still how to play with QuteControl?

Ok, figured out the QuteControl browsing. This app would be great if only the browsing was more responsive.

No problems with volume control here ...

You could always use airplay from music in iTunes and bluetooth for other stuff

Actually QuteControl seems to speed up. Maybe the sluggishness was a cache issue.
Yes, GregU, thanx. Thats what I was doing so far. I was just curious if there is a more elegant solution then NAS - Mac - mu-so wifi route.

Apart from Asset UPnP you could also try Linn's Kinsky or Audionet RCP.

They all work fine for me (Windoze, Unitiqute, Asustor NAS)

Asset UPnP is the fastest to 'find' my gear on the network but is a bit buggy sometimes.

Audionet RCP takes a while to discover my Qute but ones it is connected it is much more stable/reliable than Asset. So that is the one I use most. But I prefer the Asset UI I must admit.

So its just which one you like the best Rene, take your pick (",)

"Asset UPnP"

Flo is talking here about Asset Control, a control point for Windows which is was never released, rather than Asset UPnP which is the UPnP server.
