Unitiqute 2 cuts off first two or three seconds
Posted by: JSH on 16 January 2015
Can anyone help?
My UQ2 has begun cutting off the first two or three seconds of playback from the UpNp and USB sources (and probably from iRadio too though you can't hear that. It has only just started doing this; I've had it 18 months.
There is also a slight pop when an input initializes
many thanks

I am not sure if it's a latency issue. If it is hardwired there shouldn't be such a problem. I have not noticed that slight pop when I change input (only after reboot). I have a UQ2, roughly same age with yours, running on the latest f/w.
Yes, I have had the same fault for the last few weeks. I thought it might be an issue with the DAC V1, which I connected to the Qute a similar time ago. Looks instead like it might be associated with the last firmware upgrade, maybe. The fault doesn't happen all the time - just on the first UPnP track played after switching on the Qute. Subsequent tracks play ok, I think. It did seem that the fault doesn't happen if DAB happens to be selected when the Qute is switched on and then you switch to UPnP to play a track from that.
Hope Naim can fix this if it a F/W bug if it is that.
My setup is wireless. I have DAB disabled but I will enable it and try John's workround though I tend to leave my Qute on all the time, which my dealer recommended I do
Thanks for your help.
I've done some more tests to see if I can reproduce the fault reliably. Switching the Qute off/on does not appear to be a factor, nor is wireless/wired. I made a short track recording myself counting seconds from 0-7. Sometimes the playback starts from "one", but more often it's "two". I never lose the "three". What seems to be a reliable way of provoking the fault is to temporarily switch to the Analogue input (unused on my Qute) and then switch to UPnP and select and play a track. That always seems to lose the beginning. Stopping playback and restarting the track then works ok. Another workaround requiring nimble fingerwork is to pause the track immediately after starting the playback. Resuming the playback then starts the track properly.
Anybody else able to reproduce this?
That all makes great sense to me and replicates what happens here
I use the Analogue as an "Off" switch because if I leave my Qute on UPnP overnight I come back to find it has lost my Server (Minim). I will try a variant. I will turn off with Qute overnight as usual but when I turn back on I will go to DAB first and then to UPnP. Let's see if that works
PS I haven't measured the cut off as carefully as you have. It could well be two seconds like yours. Whatever it is, it is annoying
