Basic Spotify Account for ND5XS, will it work?

I am trying to connect ND5XS to my spotify app. - unsuccessfully.

The Naim app. wants to open the Spotify app. - which I do.

Then, the message on the ND5XS front panel says something like "connect spotify ...". The Spotify app. on my iPhone displays 3 dots running from the left to the right, as if it is doing something (forever)...

So:

1. can I use my basic Spotify account for streaming to a Naim device?

2. any other idea to connect app. to my ND5XS?

It will only work with the £10 per month Spotify Premium subscription.

Cool.

Not worth it then - I see better value in Qobuz. Better sound quality, too.

I thought that Naim brought an entirely new functionality, like, in parallel to iRadio, but if not a free service then this is nothing else but just another interface...

It's not a Naim restriction, it's a Spotify restriction. Spotify Connect is only available with premium subscriptions.

If you want to play basic Spotify, or any other Airplay compatible stream, connect an Airport Express to your ND5 with an optical cable, and play from an iPhone or iPad. Not the best sound quality, but cheap and easy to set up. An old style AE will work fine, you can pick them up used for £20 to £30.
