Spotify as self birthday present :-)

Posted by: bicela on 29 January 2015

Dear friends,

as other have suggested, the use of Spotify is maybe not the best Naim could offer to us on our streamer but now we should accept it.

I following with great interest the music area of this forum that is populated by experts with a very wide taste for genders and so, based on the fact that I will round 43 tomorrow, I would start to explore different music from what I've listened till now (I admit to be lazy in renew the personal discography in the last 15 year and sticked almost on classical albums).

I think Spotify will let me to read a post and then go for a listen (320k, right?) and eventually put that song in a personal playlist and eventually (rare) buy the song (this means I will change my preference in gender that I think will not happen).

Till now I had explorations with radio (and appreciated the quality of FM/DAB+ with a dedicated antenna) and, IMHO, the 320k internet radios are reasonable good for the use I mentioned before.

In Italy Spotify Premium is 9.99€ with 3 months "free" (0.99&euro but web page reports that Premium users can also download their music, is it correct?

If yes, isn't that bad for start a digression on different genders and time by time save a playlist for future when we will move to the dreamed lossless streaming (based on recent a post from Naim probably when I will be retired or when also Spotify will be lossless, event that is easly possible if Naim gear will manage with it hardware to do so).

Let me to conclude with a thank you to All in this forum that have let me to pacify myself with hifi after years of errantic and to everyones given the preciously suggestions. I'm a really happy new user of Quad 2905 and the quality of the music I listen nowadays is pushing me to explore more genders. This should be my ultimate reason for hifi, lets to listen for stimulating more listening.

For today my English exercise is done, I beg your pardon for such long post and the mistakes (intentionally or not) in it present.

If someone uses Spotify Premiun with download feature and want to recommend me something I will be pleased to read its posts.

All the best to dear madams and gentlemens.

Good morning Bicela,

yes, with Spotify Premium you are able to save songs / albums to a local device such as iPod/iPad etc.  for offline listening.

I often will save a new album or two to my iPod and then play them in my car when Im on my travels so I can have a listen and decide if I may like to purchase them at a later date.

But this doesnt of course mean that they are yours to keep, just that as long as you have them saved (there is a limit to how many you can save to local device, even if it is a big number) or as long as you subscribe you can continue to listen to them offline.

As you say, you can also save songs to Playlists so you also have them all together when you wish to play them again.

Playlists can also be shared with other people, and these can be played through your Naim streamer (if Spotify enabled) which is quite a nice feature. Another Forumite posted this in 'Music Room' a few weeks ago.

best regards from UK!

Thank you Chris, very kindly.

Just done premium subscription, works fine and start to listen a playlist "From a smokey bar".

I Have the age so far...

There is any volume setting? To me it seems the streaming is a bit not loud as other inputs.

Glad you got it working bicela!

Volume control.

If you are using iPad or iPod, you can use the volume buttons on that and that will change the volume on your streamer.

Or you can use your Naim remote control.

That will work too!

Dear Chris, I use iPad with Spotify App and seems there is not volume control when sounds are redirected to Naim.

I can regulate the volume at Naim only.

Is it the same for you?

Sorry, found it, just press the same green logo used to activate the streaming on Naim, wonderful sync volume control.

Ahh, the slider volume control

Try adjusting volume using the iPad volume up/down button also - that works too.

Anyway, enjoy your birthday present to yourself, and put some nice sounds on the playlist for your wife!

If one of your inputs is too loud/quiet compared to the others, you can adjust it to balance them out. Just go to Settings > Input settings, and select the input you want to adjust. There, you'll see another slider, called 'Input trim', use that to adjust the input to suit.
