Chord Qute Ex Dac for Qute2+Nap100?

Posted by: Gingerbeard on 29 January 2015

Hi

I have a Qute2 + Nap100 combi and was considering adding a Chord Qute Ex Dac as I can get one at a very good price. Would this be a worthwhile addition and does anyone else have a similar set-up that they can comment on?

I have read nothing but great reviews on Chord Dac products so presumably this must be a step-up from the internal Dac in the Qute 2

Many thanks

I fear that this is wobbly logic.

It may change the sound you hear, possibly for the better to your ears, but you'll never know until you've heard it. Having said that, if the price is right you have little to lose, just sell it on if you don't like it. Don't hang around though, if the 2Qute that replaces it is successful, used Qute Ex prices will presumably drop.

I have demoed an Ex with my ND5XS and it sounds much better I think you would experience similar results.The chord prices are very competitive due to the new arrivals and make it great value for the performance it gives.

Hi,

I'm not quite clear: is this the plan:

qute's digital-out -> ChordEx -> qute's digital-in

Not sure if this makes sense - wouldn't this just remain plain silent?

That's confusing.  I've done it in the past with a Hugo between my UQ2 and Nap100 but the Hugo has a volume control and I used it as a preamp - it sounded superb by the way - but using it in a loop sounds strange

I have a Chord Qute Ex Dac with my Naim 122x-150x-Flatcap2, and it sounds superb...A huge step up from my Naim CD5i-2 that i had before. So much more detail, and space around the instruments.

Hands down the best source I've had, and a steal at its rrp. I plan on buying a power supply for it soon though, as the wall wart it is supplied with is cheap, and from what I've heard, the sound is further enhanced with a decent power supply.

To be honest I am still getting my head around the whole streaming way of things. but I do like embracing new technology and love the advantages this sort of system has I.e. no racks of CDs ( all ripped to AIFF and Flac) for the Nas, possibility of multiple rooms, hi-res music and streaming - what's not too like

appreciate any  advice regarding set-up of this kit. Agree aStefan, seems a strange way of doing things, wonder if that's what Bart meant by his 'wobbly logic' lol!
