5 Ghz connection

Posted by: JSH on 30 January 2015

This should be a simple question so please forgive me if it is

My router (BTHH5) broadcasts on 2.4GHz and 5Ghz.  The laptop uses the 5Ghz band while the phones and tablets and the Qute are on the 2.4.

I'd like to try the Qute on the 5Ghz as its slightly stronger it seems but when I look into the network settings on the Qute only the 2.4 band shows up.

Does the Qute 2 have facility to work on 5Ghz and if so how do I get it to see it?

Many thanks

I too thought it strange,  unless steve's house has some form of steel reinforcement construction.  Typical ISP hubs handle house sizes easily up to 4/5 bed OK. I have just returned from a neighbours 2 houses away & was using my own WiFi on my iPad.

Personally I'd be worried about giving away my bank account details, etc. By using an unsecure network aren't you exposing yourself to potential fraud, etc.? Maybe you are making a joke, or it's humour, I don't get?

Hi Dave, as I said it is a remote 15th century mansion occupied by some very trusting souls. Any unknown character coming in looking for an unsecured network would be challenged pretty quickly. FYI my background is IT and I worked on a project in central London a number of years ago. When our secured network had problems we could simply link in to the unsecured network of a company across the road.

Similar to Steve my router arrives in my front lounge at one end of the house, not ideal for whole house coverage. I just tested my Sky connection using WiFi Sweetspot and SpeedSmart. Am sitting in my back lounge on my iPad with a wall and a closed door between me and the router. The Sky Internet download speed is about 20 mb/s and upload is about 8mb/s. My WiFi speed is about 54mb/s at about 6 feet from my Muso and Sky Box.
