Qobuz Downloads
Posted by: Mike-B on 01 February 2015
Is it me, or it the same for everyone, I am always getting troubles with Qobuz downloads, they take much longer that does Naim, Linn, HDT, HighResAudio or B&W for similar sized files.
The beta desktop downloader never seems to run correctly for me & I get at least one track reported as "error". This pm I had six tracks with error.
So, if all else fails, download a zip !!!! yeeech !!!! it comes in at various speeds from below 100kb/s up to 800kb - if yr lucky.
Now I've just seen its stopped & I've got an "unknown error" failure message.
Then if & when the zip does arrive it will need a whole bunch of title line editing.
Is it me, what am I doing wrong ???
Hi Mike, I've given up with Qobuz for the time being. I tried to purchase a large set recently, downloaded the zip files easily enough, but couldn't open them. I tried using their beta method as well, and despite quick responses their support people were unable to resolve. In the end I asked for and readily got a refund.
I download on a regular base from them. For the download I am using their download app and so far that has worked for me. The only issues I had sometimes are with large quanties of files - but that's easy if you download in batches. And a couple of weeks I had the issue that the art work didn't show up on every individual song. All of this was easy fixable as I always have a quality control flow and always make some changes in the tagging.
Speed - could be I never watch that, just push the button and wait....
so so bottom line, pretty happy with the guys....
I subscribed to Qobuz last week and can report of similar problems. First of all
it was very difficult to find the purchased downloads on my profile. Once I
found that I downloaded the zip archive only to find out that it was corrupt
(after a 2 hours download). Fantastic! After that I tried their beta app –
nope. I was not able to make it download my albums. I could stream them – yeah!
Wrote to their helpdesk – got fast reply – nothing that helped. Finally I
downloaded song by song which took me some hours. A very, very frustrating user
experience!
I should mention that I purchased the Rush Sector Compilations 2 and 3 in HiRes
– 10 albums altogether. Probably the worst case scenario.
At least they sound great!
Hi Bert, I too am using the app.(desktop)
Today I d/l Santana "Moonflower", I say today because it took 4 attempts over 3 hours over each side of 12 noon , 1 via the app but 6 tracks with error, then 2 failed zips, finally the app made it, slowly but at least error free.
Then I d/l a B&W album, in less than 15 mins, I'm really not sure about 15 mins as I walked away to do something & it was finished when I got back.
I'm now d/l the new Bjork album from Qobuz, its doing it OK, slow but steady.
I have sent Qobuz an e-mail asking about it

if I read correctly you are using their desktop playback app to download (which is a beta feature iiuc)
What Bert and me also are using is the downloader app which is separate and different from the playback app.
Is that correct?
The downloader can be found here: http://www.qobuz.com/fr-fr/sup...downloads/downloader
Correct Aleg, but I also have similar/same issues with the downloader app.
I'm waiting for a reply from Qobuz.
Edit: the download speed always was good. Nearly the maximum of 2 MByte/s that my connection offers.
Whilst this is not particularly helpful in solving issues, I find this strange because in my experience the Qobuz downloader app is probably the best of the lot and I very rarely have problems. I recently bought the 50 CD Oiseau Lyre box set (at a ridiculously cheap price but that is another thing) and whilst it took a long time to download it did it faultlessly. I invariably download the FLAC version and wonder whether the larger size WAV files are causing problems?
On the rare occasions I have had a problem it has usually been due to broadband drop outs and I find that if you hit the telecharger tous button it automatically downloads the 'failures'.
On the other side of the coin, I find eClassical particularly difficult and invariably end up downloading track by track.
For information, I am currently downloading the latest Diana Krall album (24/48 kHz)
Works like a charm. 800kB/s on a 800kB/s ADSL line.
Both FLAC and ALAC formats.
I am not located in the UK but in France.
Could that be that there is a problem in the lines crossing the Channel?
There is a problem with Qobuz download procedure, but it's mighty difficult to pin down. The answer I got was that 'The downloader no longer works for your country', together with alternative instructions, which don't work. I am so frustrated with this process that I will not buy anything until they fix it. But where did it go off the rails? It used to to be perfectly straightforward .
It works flawlessly for me.
But I found out a few days ago that their 4 for 3 code is only good for one use. So Amazon got an order instead.

I got a new 4 for 3 code by mail after using the initial one.
This promotion lasted only to February 1st if I recall correctly.
Yeah well. If they are running a 4 for 3 promotion for everyone then there shouldn't be a need for a voucher but should be applied at checkout automatically.
I bought 22 albums from them in the last 3 months. I suspect that, being French, their prices are matched against other French providers which can easily make them a lot more than UK prices. This means that other providers get some business as well.
Getting back to the thread subject; download problems .....
I had the following from Qobuz this morning.
