Bricked UnitiQute?

Posted by: Johnny1976 on 02 February 2015

So, my supposedly correct USB to RS232 adapter arrived in the post, but couldn't find a driver that would allow it to function on the Mac, meaning I couldn't locate the UQ

This meant I had to try a PC -- borrowed a laptop, and all was hunky dory, driver downlaoded automatically, update commenced, but stalled, over and over.....

Dug a little deeper and discovered I had been sold a dud - chip it turns out was a CH340 and wasn't quick enough to work, from reading other posts on here about bricking when updating failed I wasn't too worried,

Borrowed a desktop with Serial Port, everything is connected up, but the updater can't communicate with the UQ.... no lights on ethernet socket to rear....

Please tell me I'm missing something obvious!?

Johnny, I think something has gone wrong with your posting. There is whole load of inappropriate commercial email disclaimer bumf been added, I guess automatically?

Small sigh of relief;

Ok, so I haven't totally bricked it.....

I connected up the sub-par USB/RS232 cable and it could see the UQ and attempt to upgrade the FW...

Thus I am left with a further question, which type of RS232 cable do I need?

I went online thinking, my cable must be a dud (I borrowed it from the bottom of a rarely visited drawer in the office) and discovered that there appear to be two types of cable, Serial and Null Modem....

I have no idea of how to tell which I have, nor can I see in the manual which type I need, all it says is the socket is standard?

Any ideas?

Cheers
