The sounds that mp3 leaves out
Posted by: dayjay on 19 February 2015
Fascinating article here that 'captures' the sounds that are left out of Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner when it is converted to mp3
I beat you too it by about 15 minutes in streaming audio
Lol, its worth sharing, very interesting
Nowhere near as good as the mp3 I have of Tom's Diner.
Was that "sample" I just played back an mp3 or high (normal) resolution ?

It's the latter minus the former

I think we are both being a bit tongue-in-cheek.
I understood what the "content" was. I was attempting to clarify if the artifacts I am listening to are being presented in a "normal" resolution format.
It would be my limited understanding that most things presented via internet (band camp, soundcloud, youtube, etc) are presented in something less than normal resolution. (I understand they can possibly be downloaded in other formats, but are these type of "samples" typically normal resolution ?) I would not expect they are. I am probably wrong (and thick).
My hearing is not so bad for an old man. I have been listening under the headphones (closed back) in my living room today, adjacent to our kitchen. My wife was working on a project in the kitchen and had the exhaust fan on high and I could hear that along with the music. Then I thought, what is that crap I am hearing and took off the headphones and was able to decipher it was an aircraft flying over outside. All these in normal resolution but the music (OggV). There is a lesson there but I am not sure what it is.
Not sure I am missing much of what they took out of Tom's Diner. Others (many) obviously feel differently and are hopefully enjoying themselves as well.

ps: glad you are enjoying your new speakers, they look awesome.
Thanks Jeff, don't know what the answer to your question is though to be honest but its an interesting demonstration.
What MP3 bit rate was used?
