Unitiqute mains power socket
Posted by: TJ1901 on 28 February 2015
Hi all - hopefully someone can help with this one...My UQ has what I think is a "faulty" mains socket. It's fairly loose (which I think is supposed to be normal??) but to the point where the power cuts out if the mains cable moves. Is this right, or do I need to bring it in to be looked at??
thanks in advance...
If the mains cable is pushed "home" in the back of the Qute, then I would turn it off immediately and take it to your dealer!
It should not cut out, sorry let your retailer check it.
Funny. I've got the same problem. Thought it would be all right. It seems to be loose. Not a firm socket.

The socket is supposed to move a little in its housing, the OP's problem is cutting out
The socket should be a little loose in the casework, but the IEC plug of the cable shouldn't be loose in the socket. You need to push the IEC plug into the socket just as firmly as you would with a non-wobbly socket.
If the plug is firm in the socket and it's cutting out, I recommend you stop using it 'til you can get it checked out at your dealer.
* Technically speaking the plug is the bit in the casework and the socket is the bit on the mains lead, but most people think of it the other way round which is why I phrased it that way.

Technically speaking, a plug is the moveable bit usually (but not always) connected to a cable. The plug may have male or female contacts, or even both. A socked is a fixed connector mounted on a case or bracket.

The plug is defined by the pin(s), the socket defined by the receptacle(s) for the pin(s).
That's why you can have cable sockets and chassis plugs as well as the other way round.
