Qobuz claim streaming via naim is on its way 1st half 2015?
Posted by: Bigfoot on 03 March 2015
Just translated this from the Qobuz forums where Qobuz administrator claims that Qobuz integration is expected in 1st half 2015:
Question:
Bonjour,
Cordialement

Qobuz administrator:
C’est prévu courant première moitié 2015 oui.
Cordialement.
(It is expected current first half 2015 yes.)
Best Regards.
Yep, and they're introducing a new service which gives streaming plus discounted hi-res downloads if you're prepared to take a punt on then being around in a year's time and pay annually in advance.

They should also increase the # of devices.
With 3 it is to less for me.
2 Cell Phones - just one left.
The three device limit applies to the use of the mobile application only.. You appear not limited in other ways. I have 5 devices registered in my account including Sonos.
£219 for Qobuz Sublime, so it's cheaper than the monthly hi-fi subscription and you get 30%-60% off downloads.
Keith
Sublime is tempting, but it will be disappointing if I take the plunge and Naim integrate with Tidal first. What a pity Naim are constrained by a one way NDA

According to What Hi-Fi, Qobuz aims to be streaming hi-res by the end of the summer

Maybe so for those who enjoy fibre optic broadband; not so sure it will be so amazing in Wiltshire!
Steven Wilson's new album can be downloaded from Qobuz at 24bit. Streaming can never completely replace all other delivery methods. That's why they have their new hybrid subscription (and it's why I own a record player+ I rip CDs and DVDs).
By the way, I Saw SW in Cardiff last night. Fantastic

I bought the 2*LP version which came with a code for FLAC and MP3 downloads, but I cannot yet determine the resolution of the FLAC files as they seem to need to be uncompressed before dragging into the NS01. I assume they're just 16/44.1 but hopefully one day it will be possible to play it through the NDS and find out!

We only have bog standard broadband (with an accelerator) and stream films on Netflix perfectly. I imagine hires music streams are a lot smaller than a film, so Qobuz should work even without fibre. I may be wrong of course.
I agree without superfast or ultrafast broadband one will run out of bandwidth. I have a rather good rural broadband of between 3.8 and 4.2 mbps downstream sync speed, and streaming lossless Qobuz is fine as long as the other web usage in the house is limited to web browsing / email use etc. Sonos recommend at least 5mbps for lossless Qobuz, clearly I am having success with less than that. Qobuz lossless varies usually between .8 and 1.2 Mbps.
I can't stream hidef video, and I expect compressed hidef audio to require around 2 to 6 Mbps and that will rule itself out for me.
But I am advised by Suffolk County Council my village can expect Superfast broadband by 2018.. I wonder what the streaming landscape will look like then?

Interesting stuff Hook.
The new Steven Wilson album is stunning, isn't it - his best yet?
No. The Raven beats it by miles. IMO of course.
As does Insurgentes.

Oh thanks for clarification. Have understood it is total.

I too can stream Qobuz CD quality without any problems at 4.5 to 5 MB.
A cautionary note: my village has just got fibre (BT Infinity) but apparently I am still too far from the exchange. I have been offered "Superfast Broadband" (a product they don't advertise) which evidently piggybacks on fibre to give about 1/3 to 1/2 Infinity speed at the same cost as Infinity. As this is still less than the "up to 17MB" I am already paying for, I am pursuing a formal complaint. I hope you are nearer your exchange than I am Simon!
Pev, a little unlear as Superfast Broadband is the same as Infinity.. BT Infinity is their branding name. Superfast / Infinity uses VDSL2 technology. Yes the key thing with Superfast / Infinity is the distance to the cabinet with the line cards in. I understand that if the VDSL line speed drops below 10Mbps then VDSL won't be offered and you shall remain on ADSL to the telephone exchange.

Hi Simon, it's not very clear at all as you only encounter this intermediate product if you are in my situation of being on the fringe of getting Infinity. The product I was offered was definitely called Super Fast Broadband (may be 3 words instead of two as it was on the phone). As in most of IT, nomenclature is often abused by marketers. I was told that it makes use of fibre but is not Infinity as such. At the moment I get around 5MB download from the standard copper ADSL. They will guarantee 11 to 17 MB from the "Super Fast" product at a cost of £21. My beef with them is that standard copper ADSL is marketed as "up to 17MB" whereas Infinity is 38MB and costs £23. My position is I'm already paying for up to 17MB they contend I am paying for copper only and any fibre involvement will cost me extra. I see the "product" (their preferred term) as availability of data at a given speed and volume, they see it as me renting wires of a particular kind, hence the dispute.
The above is a synopsis of several hours' phone conversations with people in multiple continents and multiple departments of BT.
Pev - it sounds unfortunately you were perhaps given misleading information unless it is Infinity Superfast Broadband you are being offered after all - ie FTTC. Professionally I sometimes design with Superfast broadband access types and it is definitely VDSL2 / and is equivalent of Infinity broadband used for consumer/small business internet access. In my experience Infinity Superfast broadband can be offered down to 10Mbps.
There is also ADSL and ADSL2+, ADSL2+ can give approx. up to 23 Mbps (I think BT offer upto 17Mbps) in ideal conditions and has increasingly replaced the older ADSL protocol throughout the UK, ADSL can only give about 8Mbps in the same conditions. These are however standard broadband services - not usually referred to as 'superfast'. It might be your exchange is being upgraded from the ADSL to ADSL2+. That should be good news for reliability - but given your speed you have now I doubt you will get much of an improvement unless you are perhaps being rewired to a new/different exchange.
In the real world ADSL and ADSL2+ is profiled to a particular speed based on line conditions and distance to exchange so as to give the best reliability and speeds are typically a lot less than 23Mbps.

I have "Unlimited Broadband with BT Infinity 2" AFAIK this is delivered by fibre to cab and copper to house. 23 D/L 6 U/L
Simon, I'm sure you are correct regarding the technology - I was wrong to call it Super Fast, they are actually calling it "Faster Broadband". This is a grab of what I get from the BT availablity checker:
