App for Windows 8
Posted by: filoe on 06 March 2015
Do you plan to provide the app for Windows 8? Would like to buy the muso system but if've got no android or ios device. If not, does anyone got any experience with the bluestacks emulator?
I would also appriciate an app for win8. Got a Microsoft Surface windows tablet.
Me too.
I tried bluestacks and didn't like it.
Thats bad . It just makes no sense to get muso without the ability to use the app
.
Hopefully there will be a app soon.

Naim people do read this forum, but they do not rely on it as an official line of communication. You might get an answer here, or might not. An email to Naim Support might fare better.
My strong guess is that their vision is the use of portable devices to control their players. They've had an iOS appfor a long time, but never an OS X app to control their streamer players (although they do have both PC and OS X apps to control their servers). My strong guess is "no" for a streamer/player app for Windows or OS X.

It will never happen. Just treat yourself to an entry level iPad for 249 USD. It is a small cost shen you consider the vast sums of money you eventually give Naim as you progress from Muso --> Statement.
Some of the replies here show that some people do not keep up with technology developments.
The Windows 10 app model is that one app can run on any device. This means that the same app will run on desktops, tablets, phones and maybe Xbox.

It's good to know that the app that won't be written will run on so many hardware platforms
Well, its just sad. There are frameworks which allow us to create one app for all common platforms. But naim does not use any of them. Windows Tablets are quite common and are not supported -> Naim products are no option for me.

Sorry... An iPad Mini only costs 249 USD and android devices are even less expensive. I'm sure nobody at Naim is going to lose any sleep over the fact that you [and the ~1% of the world that will only use Windows tablets/phones] are not going to buy their entry level system.
And it is wrong for us to ask?
It is stupid and insulting to suggest that anyone should spend over a quarter of the purchase price of a device on a remote control so that they can use that device.
Not at all stupid or insulting. Rather pragmatic. And it's one of the big turn-offs I had regarding streaming. There is always the notion by Apple users that everyone should use Apple and their products are inherently superior to Windows based options. In reality they are just different means to the same end and the majority of the world is Windows based.

But Bananahead, the i-pad does so much more than control Muso's... I also use mine to get the weather, see the BBC news AND play solitair.
I'd encourage you try one, you might get to like it as much as I do mine
I'm sorry thats pretty much off-topic and I am no apple hater BUT
compared to a ipad you can do with a windows tablet soooo much more.
I mean a windows tablet offers you exactly the same possibilities as a usual windows computer. You can run ALL windows softwares that are available on the marked. And for those who need it, there is an appstore and so on.
An ipad won't offer you even a few percentage of possibilities as a windows tablet does. Cause if you take a look at this statistic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U...of_operating_systems you will see that most of the desktop computers are using windows. That means that nearly all softwares are available for windows computers. But not a single of them will run on an ipad.
But it's not my intention to discuss about ipad vs windows tablet. Both got their users with different needs. But a version for windows systems would be pretty nice.
a) you can use it with windows tablets
AND
b) you can use it with every windows desktop pc which would be great. You could control muso while working,...
Oh and just by the way @rjstaines.
Why should I buy a ipad when I am happy with my windows tablet. Of course a ipad offers more functionalitiy than controlling muso. But in fact, I don't need that. I've already got a tablet with (in my opinion even more features) and with much better hardware. Why should I spend so much money for a iPad?

That is all well and good but go and have look at how many iPads have been sold worldwide against Windows based tablets and then ask yourself if you were Naim, what platform would you use first and foremost for your App?
I'm with filoe and Bananahead.
I don't regard tablets (be they Android or iOS) as the universal solution to all problems, even though many seem to present them that way. In my experience, they are useful as viewers and gadgets - nothing more.
Most of my mobile computing use involves a degree of content creation, and for that tablets are near useless. Hence, instead of a tablet, I use a cheap ultra-portable (which runs Win8.1).
I'm still trying to find a competent DLNA control point to run on it, that's compatible with Naim's use of the DLNA 1.5 command set.
Windows Tablets are quite common ...
Quite! Even dreadfully
And how many Windows laptops?
microsoft dont make laptops.
you can pick up an android tabket for 70 quid. I think in terms of software development naim have plenty in their plate. There is not much value in getting a windows version. And naim are not alone with this thinking frankly.
lets see how windows ten gets on, but having a look round their web store there is not a lot in there.
And how many Windows laptops?
Yes but how many people are really going to want to control their Streamer from a Windows laptop? Well I guess 2 at least judging by this but seriously I sit on my sofa and use my iPad mini which is small and convenient but sufficiently visible. I don't really want to sit with a laptop on my knee or on the coffee table and I would imagine most people would feel the same although I stand to be corrected
This pushes the cost of Muso to past a thousand pounds. And it ain't worth over a thousand pounds. I don't think it's a question of what you can afford so much as how much unnecessary junk in your life you are willing to tolerate. Sonos can do it.
The issue I have with a lot of the replies is this.
Three of us express an interest in a Windows app.
We then get replies that tell us that we should buy an ios or android based device.
We want to be able to use the devices that we already own.
Our request is reasonable.

So, are you advocating that people should by an iPad just to use it as as remote control? It's a very expensive and excessively complicated remote.
(Everything else is better done either on my phone or on the laptop).

No absolutely not, that is personal choice. Nobody is saying that people should buy an iPad.
What I am saying is that given the ubiquity of iPad devices then if I were Naim then the first platform I would have designed the app for would have been Ios. In terms of what is used for a remote then given that the majority of phones either run on Ios or android then for an overwhelming number of people this would be a sensible alternative option.
Thats absolutely true. But since there is an iOS and an Android version, they could NOW build a Windows version.
They could but given the seemingly unassainable market position that Apple and Google (Android) hold and the consequent potential for Windows to make any sort of inroads into that I would have to say that it is unlikely and to be honest I can appreciate why.
