App for Windows 8

Do you plan to provide the app for Windows 8? Would like to buy the muso system but if've got no android or ios device. If not, does anyone got any experience with the bluestacks emulator?

The app design has already been done. It is just a platform port so should be much quicker and cheaper.

And wouldn't 60% of resources be Indian or similar

I believe the current two applications aren't written using portable techniques (I may be wrong, in which case your point is totally justified); however I still think they would need to be re-written from the ground up, using a cross-platform development tool.

In my opinion (and experience), using Indian resources for a UI application to handle something with as strong a cultural basis as music, would be unwise.

Yeah well, you would have thought that when they decided to finally do an Android app that they would have moved to a cross platform development tool.

Wisdom? Are you making fun?

As Bananahead said, the question was about the cost for another platform, not writing something from scratch.  If Naim do not use a portable approach, why not?

If it is so extremely expensive, why not get together with another manufacturer; it happens in a surprising number of industries even where image is all important.  As someone already noted, Linn's app is nearly there, presumably even without any design input to do so ...

Its the Naim kit which "makes" music and is why customers are so loyal, not the remote control.

Totally agree.  But that's much to sensible for us Brits.

Still makes me sad that there won't be a portable app. Muso just sounds awesome but so I will have to search for an alternate system. What do you think of sonos? Or are there any nice alternatives in the category of muso?

BlueStacks, if you're running an Intel-based Windows tablet, might work fine with the Android app. There are some UPnP apps for Windows Phone that will control UPnP volume and playback, but not much more....

Sonos is great. I don't think (from limited time spent with Muso) that it is in the same league for musical communication and room filling weight. But it's good in its own right and so easy to use. Software wise, Naim could use them as a guide on how to do it properly, regardless of platform or OS.. I have a Play 3 in my office. It won't be replaced by a Muso but it might be nudged aside by a Play 5.

Sonos - simple, sounds good, works.

It wouldn't replace my main system, but for getting sound around the rest of the house it's really good.

I would like a windows app to use with a MS Surface.

More than this though, I would like Naim to improve the way their software works with third party control points.

I can control my Uniti with MusicBee (with UPnP plugin) off my win 7 laptop, but can't control my muso (501 Action failed error). I have spoken to the dev of MusicBee and he said the issue was on Naim's side.

I used to get the same error with my Uniti, but it got fixed somewhere in the last 4 years. I highlighted this problem to Naim tech support, but I don't know if they are planning to look at it.

Just in case anyone wonders...I like to work on my laptop, AND play music off it at the same time without picking up my phone. Please don't tell me I am wrong for wanting to do this :-D

You are exactly the opposite end of the spectrum to wrong

It is exactly what I want as well.

You can do this two ways: push-streaming via UPnP the content on your laptop via a desktop application such as J.River, or a proper UPnP control point application + a UPnP server, allowing gapless playback. I do think that a desktop application for control of Naim devices would be well utilized, if it existed....

+1 for a Windows Universal app.

Question - does Naim publish an API for their control apps?  I mean if they did this, then I am sure someone would create a Win Universal App.

I have a feeling they don't even do this internally for their own applications.

The manual for that is the DLNA technical documents, unfortunately they're only available to members of the DLNA, and that membership is, to say the least, expensive!

I just bought an iPad mini, -only to controll my ndx/sn2. Now the iPad resides beside my workhorse, the surface windows tablet. Feels a bit ridcoulus.

I am a long-long time Windows user & I too - grumbling & complaining - bought an iPad "just" to control NDX.  But grumbles aside, it was/is the most logical decision. Naim had clearly focused on the iOS platform to lead the development for nStream & nServe & the only other choice was Android & that was some way back.

Now my iPad not only does the HDX but it also a very handy very travel friendly take anywhere computer,  e-mails, maps, weather etc etc ......... plus I frequently use it at home for e-mails & www stuff.

I would much prefer Naim to focus on iOS & Android & get those 100% before venturing into other systems. If Windows & the other systems can get done as well great,  but not at the expense of the market leader.
