Apple Watch

Would you buy one? I would.
I think it is going to be a [great] success as it defines a new age communication device - connecting to bluetooth and through voice recognition software one can dial a number from wrist watch, messaging, precise time keeping, and so on.
Interesting that just when they come out with the iPhone 6 and 6+ because people demand larger viewing surfaces, that they go in the opposite direction with this product. I can't imagine how anyone over 40 will be able to see the clock face for other than telling time, let alone checking the internet.
But Apple has made an art form of suckering its devotees at much higher prices than for similar products that don't have the Apple cachet and "cool" factor, so maybe this will be another home run for them.
I still have my iPhone 4S running iOS 6, and when it sh*ts the bed I am getting a divorce from Apple.
Naim watch anyone? Emphasis on the T of PraT!
IF it could operate on its own WITHOUT the phone then yes...
I am an apple fan… but its just not enough of a technical leap for me...
when will apple start to wow me again? wish this watch did not need the phone to make calls… id get it to carry one less thing around...
Yep. But I also like the phone for the graphic capability. If I had to choose one...phone. It doesn't seem likely I'd look at a website or watch a movie on the watch, but I'm quite happy to do so on the phone.

I jumped from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6. I'm not really a phone guy, but it has really impressed me. I really like it.
Oh the 4 is good, winky, and I have no doubt the 6 is better - Apple quality is not an issue. For me it is the cost, and the way they try to corral you into only using their stuff with the proprietary approach to things. I know there are some advantages to that, but to me the disadvantages are higher.
Interestingly, I know 2 people who bought the 6+, and say they wished they had gotten the 6 because the 6+ is just too big now that they're using it.
There is though a fundamental difference. What do the companies do with that data. If you buy a Windows Phone, Blackberry or iPhone you are buying from a business that makes it's money from selling you hardware and software. Because Google is in the business of selling adds and thus keeping our eyes on it's properties is it's primary objective. When you agree to the EULA you explicitly give it permission to use your data to serve you adds.
For me it is the cost, and the way they try to corral you into only using their stuff with the proprietary approach to things.
I suspect you will always be able to find something cheaper but with each iteration Google is steadily locking us in to it's own proprietary ecosystem much as Apple has always done.
Google has been reducing it's commitment to the Android Open Source Project in favour of the proprietary Google Play. A good example is the Android browser which is basically unsafe because it's stagnated since Google switched to Chrome which is is not available to the AOSP. As you can imagine die hard Android fans are very upset by this because without Google's resources critical parts of the AOSP are dying. Developing an OS is really hard, so as AOSP withers the hardware manufacturers are gradually becoming weaker in their dealings with Google. Samsung is trying to mitigate this by doing it's own thing with Tizen, but it's unlikely to suceed because it can't do software.
I imagine the Swiss manufacturers are quaking in their boots........

I'll go for 42mm rose gold edition
No I prefer to stay with a real watch a Breitling...
Agreed.
This latest apple gadget has all the aesthetic sophistication and usefulness of a child's toy.......
It's ironic to me in that one of the conveniences I've found with keeping my flip phone in my pocket is the comfort of no longer wearing a watch to get the time of day. Redundancy eliminated.
And it is also a bit ironic that a nice watch had been a means by which to express a fashion sense in dress, a factor of which this new contraption possesses exactly a none, now that some people will begin to wear a watch again.
Chris,
yes, the Black Bay is the first watch in a long time that has really excited me since I lost my vintage Rado Diamaster while swimming a few years back. The pictures only tell a apart of the story. It's only when you have it in the hand and feel the precision, and the amazing finish (particularly the gorgeous coin edged bezel and bevelled lugs) that you begin to appreciate it fully. It's great to see your Grandfather's old Tudor still going strong, and I'm pleased to see the Tudor of today emerging once more from under the shadow of Rolex.
We've been here before of course.

I don't think I want or need an Apple Watch, but never say never eh?
John.
I think fitness fanatics will find it most useful and that it'll be very popular within the sporting fraternity. Personally, I like the idea of it and think the technology is great, but am unlikely to purchase one. Now, if I could have any watch in the world, this is the one I would have...
Built to order (i believe) and cost around £100K! but an absolute stunning time piece nonetheless. One can dream...
It's to keep an eye on everyone so they don't fall a sheep.
Including the poor soles that have to build them !!!
@Gingerbeard Actually I disagree. I think 'fitness fanatics' will probably want a device that can be used independently of an iPhone to track their activity, and are more likely to look at a dedicated device from Garmin or Polar. For people just looking to get fit or track activity, then yes I think it could be an interesting option.
I didn't want one, but now I do.
Dam you Apple!
In order to take phone calls when your iPhone is in another part of your home or office, the Apple Watch includes wifi, which got me thinking.
Would people here find it useful to be able to control their audio system from their watch?
I think it could be helpful, especially for those occasions when you are not in reach of an iPad or iPhone. I wonder if Naim have considered this for the second half of the year year when the full SDK becomes available.
I think it is an interesting development, I kind of fancy getting one, but will probably still leave it all over the house like the phone.
Haven't warn a watch for ages, see the Windows band is competing, probably poorly.
Dunno might go for one, if I hate it it goes to one of the kids. Would prefer a new HCDR for the SN2 mind.

Sad but true...

A watch is something with which to tell the time. My Heuer Autavia does that fine.

I think you are missing the point Apple Watch is not only a watch, just like the iPhone, which is not just only a cell phone.
