Sir Terry Pratchett has passed away, he was 66.
Personally not a huge fan , but always enjoyed him and his TV versions.

A shame but not unexpected. Regardless of how highly he is admired in our household, 66 is way too soon for anyone. R.I.P P'terry.
Sad that we can no longer enjoy the further adventures of the Discworld - not great literature but his books always left me with a smile and were always eagerly anticipated for his unique view of our world through his fantasy world. And I am sure he would have loved the tweet from Death on his Twitter feed.
One of my favourite authors, a gifted creator of worlds full of humour and depth and wonderful characters. I will miss my regular fix of discworld very much. The world is a slightly sadder more boring place today
Alas, no more DiscWorld novels. RIP
This sad event should at least have the positive effect of reigniting the debate about the legality of assisted suicide in the UK.

OH BUGGER!

Taken from another messageboard I inhabit:
I recall his desription of the 'counting pines' of the ramtop mountains on Discworld.
They were very old trees, and developed a rudimentary intelligence. But they were very slow.
One day, they'd be talking to their neighbour, next day, he was gone! All that was left was a stump.
They noticed that people brought groups of children to the stump, and they counted the rings. This one was 538 years old!" they'd cry.
So the pines figured out that people cut them down to find out how old they were.
To preserve their lives, they'd configure their bark to display their age.
Job done.
Unfortunately, they became extinct almost overnight, thanks to a burgeoning business in the front door trade.
I personally loved his imagination and insights into the absurdity of many of the things that make up life.
RIP Terry

OK, it maaaay not work but like the fella says, you would be upset in the afterlife if you found out it would have, if only you'd tried.
