Tidal and Spotify source for Naim using a RaspberryPi

Posted by: MDOwens on 16 March 2015

Dear All,

I have setup Tidal and Spotify as a feed into my UnitiQute (or ND 5XS) using a RaspberryPi, a plug-in audio card and some free software.  The trick is Logitech Media Server and Squeezebox - both now freely available.  Logitech Media Server is running on a PC or Mac and configured to access Tidal and Spotify using a software "plug-in" called ickStream.  Rather than using a Logitech Squeezebox player I am using a RaspberryPi, a plug-in Wolfson audio card and Squeezelite software.  The Wolfson card is connected to the Naim streamer using a Digital SPDIF connector - so no loss of sound quality.  The system is controlled by an app on the phone "Squeezebox Controller".  Total cost less than £50.  Needs Spotify Premium and/or Tidal subscriptions.

Watch out that only specific (older) versions of the RaspberryPi have the audio connector that the Wolfson card needs.

The only gap in these instructions is that you also need to download the "squeezelite_settings.sh" file from the website and make a couple of changes to it.

In summary, you need to download the Wolfson RaspberryPi image from their website and use this as the basis of the RaspberryPi rather than using a standard RaspberryPi operating system image.

The instructions are good so no special knowledge of Linux is really necessary (though it would help).
