Updating 172 firmware - Help!

Posted by: Clandrel on 17 March 2015

I connect the mini USB in the back of the preamp, and straight into my Macbook. Then the ethernet cable straight into the Macbook. When I launch the streamer update software, it will not find the USB. the only option is Bluetooth Incoming Port. Any ideas what to do?

Ethernet cable goes to your network switch not the computer.

I have two ethernet cables. One into the preamp and one into the mac.

Have you updated the USB drivers?  There is a link in the installation instructions.

(Assume both ethernet cables go to the same router / switch.)

1. You need a special driver to make you mac believe the usb port is a serial (COM) port. Find download link in firmware package PDF.

2. you should connect only ONE ethernet cable: one end into your mac, the other end into your router where your NC 172 connects to.

As to point #2, a second ethernet cable, from the 172 to the same switch, is highly desirable. The 172 also needs to be on the network for this to work, and wired is preferred to wireless for this!

(The Mac, on the other hand, is likely just fine doing the update if on the network wirelessly.  At least that's worked for me every time.  But I have a nice robust reliable wifi network at home.)
