Naim App Android - V1.3 release
Posted by: TJ on 19 March 2015
A new update for the Naim app which controls all Naim streaming products is now available to download for Android devices. Version 1.3 for Android features support for the new NAC-N 272 streaming preamplifier, a new link for users to easily register a product from the app and other minor bug fixes and improvements.
New: support for NAC-272
New: product registration feature
New: user option to show track options popup rather than immediately playing when track is tapped
Fixed: search boxes incorrectly formatted on Android 5.0
Fixed: Other minor issues
Thank you!
Thanks for the update guys. I am receiving a message from the BBC when I try and access Paul Jones show saying " audio format change" and that its playing format is not compatible with my device. The message is an audio one dated 19/3. I tried others to check (Jamie callum, liza Tarbuk Steve Wright) that had the same problems but other works though. Anyone else have that issue?
Thanks so much!! Finally browsing internet stations and upnp shares is fun, i.e. i'm not taken to the top of the list again each time i tap an item to play it.
No ians: Same thing with the paul jones show happens on my sangean internet radio.Seems to be a problem at BBC, not with naim.
MUCH better . . . . but stills crashes a lot on a Sony device - every time it hasn't been used for a little while it crashes when started. Seems fine on Samsung. Weird, and presumably to do with how Sony has implemented Android, but frustrating nevertheless.
Where does the user option to show track options popup appear? I have a latest Nexus 7 and it seems to work occasionally and other times just jumps to the track when I press the three dot alongside the track.
Assuming it's the same as the iOS app, then if you go into settings (gearwheel) then select Input settings> UPnP> tap for options.
Problem solved, the Android app is the same. Many thanks for the info

It is not Sony related. On my Nexus5 it did crash very often, too, with the old app version. And the new version did crash on startup yesterday, too. As it did not happen everytime, I will see if it became a bit better or if nothing has changed regarding this.

Hello,
the same problem on my Acer Tablet. It seems that the crashes are a generally problem with the android app. (Excused my English, I'm from Germany)
Thanks for the feedback RE crashes. Will see if our crash reporter has returned any useful info and will prioritise fixing it if it is a recurrent problem for you.
@TJ
The repeatable fault on my Sony Android phone (all software up to date) is that if I use the app and then leave the house (out of wi fi range) and come back, the app 'stops' immediately on loading - it fails before the app UI appears. I send the standard feedback report and then run the app and it's always fine on the second start.
It seems like there's some issue with app's stability while out of range of the Naim device. It happens every time consistently whether 'stay connected' is ticked or not.
Once the app is running it seems stable, although I generally use an iPad so there may be other problems I just haven't come across.
I've just switched to a Nexus 9 running Android 5.0.2.
I'm also experiencing the crash on 1st opening, or when returning to the application after a while. 2nd time in it is fine and very fast on the Nexus 9, so much quicker than our iPads which are destined to go.
Also it would be nice to see the alphabet down the right hand side and Rovi pretty please!
Richard
I 2nd the crash description.
What I am missing most is
1) track times in library list and playlist
2) long titles do not wrap in the library view, so you often have to guess it if is the "1989 - Superduper album special edition" or "1989 - Superduper album special edition - digitally remastered" folder.
But for me it's definitely not to do with going out of range of the network/Naim device. As it still happens when I haven't left my flat.
Overall it seems more stable now. It just has the same problems a bit less often.

One question TJ, is it useful to you guys if we press 'report' every time something like this crash happens, to provide as much data as possible? Or it it more the case that once or twice is enough, and it doesn't help to keep banging on about it?
"New: user option to show track options popup rather than immediately playing when track is tapped"
There is a small inconsistency: you can activate this for UPnP, but for USB-Input this option is missing. It probably would be better to make this an global option, not one for each input?
What is the preferred way to report 'non-ideal' (and possibly unintended) behaviour form the Android app?
I'm actually an ex systems designer and ex systems developer, so I'm well used to more formal reporting procedures.
The main thing I have at the moment is a non-ideal response of the connectivity subsystem to power state transitions.

Thanks TJ,
I'll construct my own form to try to ensure I give you all the details you may need to reproduce the behaviour (and indicate what I expected). If I don't do this the ADHD will probably cause me to leave out random bits!

Hi TJ,
I sent an email dealing with an issue with the app to the above mentioned address, a few days ago. No confirmation mail and no response. Is this normal?
Thanks,
k
Not sure if it's every time, and there are still crashes at other times. But as I find it quicker to adjust volume with the remote rather than my phone, I think this has been responsible for a fair proportion of app crashes for me.
Worth keeping an eye out for.
Recently replaced a Sonos Connect with a ND5 XS: What a difference!
Also got my first interaction with Naim Support for the app: What a difference! ☺
Great job!
