dBpoweramp R1 released for Apple OS X

Posted by: Egerton on 22 March 2015

Good morning,

Has anyone tried the long awaited OS X version of dBpoweramp R1?

Having installed it there is an issue with confirguring the AccurateRip feature and despite contacting illustrate on the 10th and 16th i'm no further forward. The only advised was to try another beta version which also has the same issue.

Curiously the website is still selling it despite the CD Ripper not working correctly so be warned if considering it.

In the past when I've had issues with Asset the response and resolution were excellent, however on this occasion not.

Spotted this recently, having been waiting for a better ripping solution for Mac than XLD.

Downloaded and tried it out. Worked perfectly fine from what I could tell, but have only ripped one CD so far, to be fair.

Am running it on a MacBook Pro with USB SuperDrive using OS X Mavericks, so could Yosemite compatibility be the issue here?

Yosemite could be the issue if it's running on Mavericks although frustrating as Yosemite is hardly brand new!

Does AccurateRip show as configured in CD Ripper Options?

0.2% of people are having this issue, which is being investigated.

AccurateRip appears as "configured" when a CD is in the drive and ready to be ripped.

Wat

Have been using XLD for about three years and, whilst it works well, the metadata consistency is my biggest gripe. Not saying that XLD is bad, just feel that dBPowerAmp suits me better.

NB I am only trying the free trial version at present.

When any software is released there will *ALWAYS* be a small number of people who encounter odd - and to them showstopping - issues ... Obviously for the people who experience those problems they will be major but I'm sure that Mr Spoon will be working on identifying and resolving them.

Definitely with you on that sentiment, Phil.

@ Egerton: R1.1 is out since quite a while. At least in my case AccurateRip could configure itself correctly: after inserting a CD I allowed network access in "Little Snitch" (my outgoing firewall) for all tasks dBp asked and needs to work.

But I stumbled over an error in the multi-format encoder!

I use AIFF for my QNAP silent NAS (home stereo), and AAC for iTunes (portable use). Although the ripping process seems to run through normally, only one "Folder.jpeg" and one empty "no-filename-specified.(audioformat)" file exist in the end in each target folders (MQ and LQ). Not even the folder structure /artistname/albumname gets created...

The single-format encoder works for both tested formats. In the info after the single-format rips, it shows no errors. But in the multi-format rips, it shows quite some errors (from the same CD!).

Tested with dBp 1.1 final and 1.2 beta with same results. iMac 27" mid 2011 with integrated Superdrive, OS 10.10.3 with all current updates. I posted in their forum, too. Other users had similar experience.

Appreciate any news about when and in which version this bug will be fixed?

There's a new dBpoweramp 1.2 beta 4 version out:

+ It fixes the multi-format encoder problem.

- And introduces some metadata retreival problem.

- Still has some problems with restricted characters in Win, but allowed in OS X when written from metadata to file...
