HDX-SSD Display interface - best external display option?

Posted by: robgr on 23 March 2015

Hi Forum, I'm able to try S-video, composite and VGA interfaces but all appear to have a lack of clarity when compared to the resolution seen via the web interface via a PC or tablet

This is somewhat of a struggle given the amount of small text for some of the menu screens

I'm struggling to see much difference between any of the options, what are other peoples thoughts?

As my kids keep walking off with my tablet it struck me that using the TV might be an option

I've never used a display for my UnitiServe.  I mostly use an iPhone, which no one pries from my fingers  The iPad does sometimes get taken; I know how this goes with kids.

You can call the front-panel interface from a web browser if you need larger text, though there will likely be far less information displayed on screen at any one point in time.

My TV is 1024 x 768 (XGA) but it only appears to display at 800 x 600 (SVGA) when connected to the HDX external display.

Is 800 x 600 actually the maximum resolution of the HDX external display or am I perhaps missing something in the setup of my TV?

It's a shame as 800 x 600 is not quite a high enough resolution to comfortably display the text given the average viewing distance from a TV

Hi robgr,

For a number of years I used an s-video to HDMI converter and displayed the interface onto my LCD TV. Worked well, until the converter packed up ...gone back to using my laptop and web browser.

Thank you Sir, I've found a converter/upscaler for around £30 form a well known auction site ;-)

It looks like it might do the trick, I'll report back after I've given it a whirl

I had this issue when using the HDX with a telly (using both S-Video and Composite) but on the model of telly I had it was possible to adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc. for each input. So the HDX input had some pretty extreme values but it did end up looking more than acceptably legible.

Update - I actually bought item 261710845632 from that well known auction site for just £8.25 (all you need is an HDMI cable (as it's USB powered I used one of the HDX rear USB ports)

This works perfectly, all text nice & sharp and I'm well chuffed.

I also changed the theme to silver which works better for me but appreciate this maybe subjective
