Cricket World Cup 2015

Been listening to the live commentary of the New Zealand v South Africa semi (in between listening to music) and what a wonderful game of cricket it was.

Grant Elliot hits second last ball of the game from Steyn for 6 to win the game.

Hope the Aussie v India game is more of the same.

Does anyone here understand the D/L method as SA made 281 off 43 and NZ had to make 298 off the same amount of overs?

NZ to win the final.

Duckworth Lewis is a mathematical equation that takes into account run rate, overs bowled, overs lost, wickets lost etc. but needs revisiting IMO as the 50 over game has moved on radically since its inception (when it was first devised there were no powerplays and the run rate in closing overs rarely got into double figures.  SA were well in control when the rain came down and didn't even get 20 runs added to the total by DL, even though the last 10 overs consistently go been going for 10 plus an over and they had timed their run chase and acceleration perfectly; not to mention that NZ were able to lose overs by bowlers who weren't quite delivering.

What a great game, watched it on tenterhooks until the last ball. Rain certainly affected the game, although it was predicted and SA elected to bat first. NZ’s fielding wasn’t up to their usual standards, yet South Africa failed to take catches and run-out opportunities when it really mattered.

The Black Caps have played exciting cricket over the past two years. McCullum's good, but I put it down to Tui Beer's offer of $100,000 for each one-handed catch in the 2013/14 season. Worked fabulously to inspire both the crowds and the team. Brilliant!
