Ripped (unitiserve) but not registered (n-serve)
Posted by: janc333 on 29 March 2015
I used to have a problem that ripped CDs (unitiserve) took some time to appear on n-serve. Recently they have stopped showing up all together. Mode is on Rip, I've witnessed them being ripped track by track but still they are not showing up in the n-serve app and so subsequently cannot play them. Frustrating. Tried the 'refresh cache' in the app but that hasn't helped either.
Hi janc333, do you have the DTC (Desktop Client) installed on your PC?
are the rips showing up in the log in DTC?
You may be able to check it that way.
What version nServe app do you have? Is it the latest black and white icon version?
Have you tried uninstalling/ reinstalling? Or maybe powering down the iDevice and powering back up again?
Im sure you have done these things but sometimes it can just clear any issues out.
My rips have sometimes taken a while to appear in the past too, but these days when the 'Music Library Synchronising' shows up in nServe, the rips show up straight away.
Im sure if they've been ripped, your rips must have gone somewhere on the US hard drive, it's just finding them and getting them to appear!
Thanks for the the reply. All reinstalled with new apps before and again nice crisp black icons. I have n-serve on my iMac which is where I work from to create playlists etc. still no luck! I wondered whether it might be that I've reached the memory limit on my uniserve but I don't know how to check from the n-serve as the functions seem quite limited. So... still no joy.
Sorry to hear that you have a problem. If you open n-Serve on your Mac, in the left top hand you'll notice the MAC adress of your UnitiServe. Next to it, you'll see 'library' you can chang that into 'maintenance' (I see these words in Dutch, but assume that these are the English words).
Once in the maintenance menu, you can see warnings which ocurred during ripping, and also the system status where you can see a.o. the free space of the hard drive...
hope this helps...
Regards,
Michel
I'm using DTC on Windows so I'm not 100% sure what you can see in nServe for Mac.
But if you look at page 9 on this link:
https://www.naimaudio.com/site...t_english_issue1.pdf
this shows you the Maintenance Menu items on the Windows version.
I can see in System Status 'Available Storage Space' compared to 'Used Space', amongst other things so if you can find this in your Mac version you can check to see if you are maxed out.
And then as Klout10 says, if you look in System Messages and Status's that should help you to find what happens when you are ripping.
If you are still struggling, you could always put a call/e mail in to Naim Support, I'm sure they would be able to help.
Hope this helps.
As far as I'm aware the DTC and nServe for Mac are the same.
Thank you for the replies. How strange - done all (still had a quarter of the space left with 1140 albums ripped) also n-setve is the DTC for the iMac. Maintenance showed up no items so I cleaned up the image cache etc. Just witnessed another CD get ripped slowly track by track but still not showing up after a few hours. I think this problem started after my icon on the iMac went from green to black so maybe something was triggered that I cant Fix? I may try and get it sorted through my Naim dealer - funny how with all this technology I am stacking up a pile of CDs that I can't listen to ![]()
Ripped CDs should be playable two or three minutes after ripping. Can you see them all in the Serve's library? Have you rescanned your folders? If not, do it. It will take a couple of hours, but will make everything visible. Have you emptied both the upnp cache and the image cache on your streamer?

The icon changing color was just part of an update to the n-Serve app for OS X. It's now black, no longer green. The app has nothing to do with the uServe's ripping process, so rest easy that that's not related!
Do as HH recommended -- use n-Serve to force a re-scan.
That's the problem they are not showing up in the library and I've tried on iMac, iPad and iPhone all of which have the n-serve app. Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by 'scanned my folders' - the n-serve seems quite constrained in what you can do and I've looked at every option and haven't seen this one? Thank you..
When I had a Serve, I had a windows laptop, which had the desktop client. Within that you can see the music library and there is an area for maintenance - setting backups, transcoding and the like, and also a place where you can see your stores of music. That is where you do the rescanning. The mac version is part of n-Serve, which I know Bart uses - hopefully he can point you too the page. In the meantime I suggest you have a look around the maintenance area of the software.
Thanks for all the replies. Having spent hours searching every option (the maintenance area has all the files without the newly ripped albums) the Unitiserve has a much more fundamental problem.. the front logo wont stop flashing (this is after a power down). I've tried it a few times leaving it for a good time between switching on again. Looks like I need to search the forums with my new problem. It's only two tears old ![]()
I suspect at this stage that the best advice you're going to find is to take it to your dealer. Hope you've got a backup?
No ![]()
1140 CDs..
janc333, there's still hope, my Unitiserve threw a wobbly when the power supply failed, flashing front logo and everything. ( a few years ago now)
Spoke to Naim Support and my dealer, replacement power supply received within the week, all back up and running pronto
Now I'm not saying this is your issue, but I'm sure the ever trusty Naim Support team together With your dealer will get it sorted for you.
You could always drop Naim Support an e mail and check it out with them?
