RIP Richie Benaud

"It's a sunny day here in Heaven, and good morning to you at home." RIP Richie Benaud..... great cricketer, great commentator
Sad but he has been in poor health for some time I think
His voice certainly became part of my childhood appreciation of cricket. I loved his spare and calm commentary, saying just enough to add rather than for the sake of it. He seems to have been a thoroughly nice bloke too.
I have a DVD of the great Vaughan/Flintoff Ashes series and it was his TV farewell in the UK which I recall he did with characteristic eloquence. I may play that bit tonight and raise a glass.
An Aussie we definitely adopted here.
Bruce
A great player and a marvellous commentator. As a boy his was my proudest autograph.
R.I.P.
Was he signing autographs even when he was a boy?
Seriously ,though, he was one of my heroes when I was a boy. I used to like Keith Miller and Denis Compton and he closely followed them as a prominent personality on the scene.
Thanks for the memories!
Richie Benaud was one of the greatest commentators - he was astute and it was as much what he didn't say as what he did. Many could learn from him. He will be sadly missed - for me he was as much the voice of cricket as in earlier years was John Arlott.
Yes, RIP Richie. Along with Arlott and the rest of the radio commentary team, his distinctive tones seemed to define summers and Test cricket for many of us. Happy memories.
RIP Richie , Cricket wouldn't be Cricket without you in many ways . I was lucky to live in the same Sydney suburb as him for a while and once queued behind him for some roast chicken severely star struck .He was a lovely friendly man . Pure class .
Yet another great voice from my youth silenced. RIP Richie.
He had a good innings RIP
Ashes to Ashes....
Thanks for the memories, Richie. The soundtrack to many a great summer over the decades, and a formative part of my youthhood. You will be sadly missed.
