UK SuperUniti - Work in US?
Posted by: nick2413 on 09 May 2015
Hi All, I'm moving to the US in a few weeks, I want to take my SuperUniti, does anyone know if I have to have it modded for US voltage?
Thanks so much,
Nick
Yes Nick -- we are 110 v here and a modification is necessary. The mod is pretty simple to have done, but you do need it done, and by a qualified shop.
Ok great thanks Bart. I guess I'll try and find a dealer in SF to do the modification - slightly concerned that I don't have time for Naim UK to do the mod, but thats life!
How about a small step-up isolating transformer? It might give some SQ benefits too!
Nick, if a dealer in SF can't or won't do it, AVOptions is an "option" for you. You could surely ship it there and have them do the work. They are very easy to work with and would take care of you. Good luck moving!
You might want to contact NAIM before you leave to see if the FM de-emphasis and channel spacing differences are automatically handled in the tuner module (as no-one in the States is likely to be able to tell you this).

These are a pain and aren't cheap, I speak from experience and in hindsight wish I had just left my UK appliances that couldn't have been converted in the UK and bought new in Canada. Money would be better spent on fixing the voltage, that is, if you are planning on spending a long time/moving permanently to the US. It's a shame you just can't flip a switch like desktop PC's...
Naim in the UK would be best and then getting it sent to your new address ? But if you are stuck for time contact AVOptions. You have a few options.
Your best option is to contact our Naim dealer in SF (AVSF).
they will offer to send your unit to AV Option or to us to do the mod.
your unit needs to be adjust to 110v, FM and WiFi need also to be adjusted to North American standards.
The power supply for the nas may well be 110/220 capable. The label on the power supply should say. I'm guessing that it is
As per Bart, if it has 110/220V it should be fine ( Most current laptop & equipment et al is automatic switch dual voltage, desktop PC is move the red slider with a screwdriver). But, you might need to go into the Netgear config and possibly download the North American firmware. As Manu states the frequencies have a slight difference from Europe.
One thing you will find being state side, is PC electronics are way cheaper than the UK, that is even after you get use to the price you see isn't the price you pay I.e. adding in state taxes which in SF is between 7.5 to 10% depending on where you shop.
I wasn't aware that wifi standards were different -- can anyone explain?
Europe and Japan use channel numbers that go a but higher than in the USA.
Interesting - thanks Aleg!
Thank you to all for your input - this was one factor of my move which I'm glad I considered!
