Accessing Synology NAS after fimware update to 5.2-5565

Hi All,

If you are having issues accessing files and folders on your Synology NAS after updating to the 5.2-5565 firmware then welcome to my world of pain ... I had this issue and Synology weren't too keen on admitting that there was an issue caused by the firmware update or helping out so hopefully this will help you.

It seems that the 5.2-5565 firmware changes the way that the guest account / user group works and I found the following 'fix' which has also worked for a couple of customers since...

Go into the Synology Control Panel,

Go to “Group”, select “users” and “Edit”,

Go to the “Permissions” tab and select “Read/Write” for all of your shared folders on the NAS and “OK” that.

Then go into “User”, select “guest” and “Edit”,

Go to the “User Groups” tab and you should find that the tickbox for “users” is selected, if it isn’t then select it and “OK” that.

That should sort the problem.

Cheers

Just to follow up on this ... I had contacted Synology Support with this issue, they came back with something that was unrelated and incorrect to try but I gave them the above information and their reply was...

"The workaround you applied does look like a known issue. Beside the workaround, we have released critical update 1 which fixes some guest related issue. You may update that and see if it works."

...so if you have problems with guest access on 5.2-5565 then please ensure you apply the new patch. I haven't been able to try it yet as my NAS is busy resyncing a 42Tb array and won't be finished for about a week for me to try it here.

Cheers
