iTunes and Pure Music on Mac

Posted by: Foxman50 on 22 May 2015

Has anyone used or using the above. It reads quite good, but as usual the proof is in the eating. Must stop thinking about my tummy.

has anyone got any tips on setting up iTunes so that it doesn't cock things up. Have read some horror stories, but would like to give it a try.

There are reams and reams of forum advice posts on this, much of it contradictory.

My advice would be simply as follows:

Cheapest upgrade: the BitPerfect app for itunes (which is what I use, 100% reliably)

Better, for more: Audirvana (more you pay, the better and more featured it gets)

Similar to Audirvana: Amarra

Use XLD or dBPoweramp to rip CDs using AIFF codec.

Ideally store your music on a thunderbolt connected SSD

There, done.

Or, pursue one of a thousand other ways to do it!

Hope this helps, FT

Thanks for the reply. Maybe i should have added a bit more to my post as i have a few requisites.

All my music is in either FLAC or DSF formats, so standard iTunes integration is out. Or am i wrong on that ?

I also need to be able to control music playback via an iPad app.

At present I'm using JRiver which works really well, but I'd like to try something else. Audirvana is first on the list when the ipad app comes out.

the only other piece of software i can find that reads as though it will work is iTunes with Pure Music, as, if i have read correctly, it somehow has native support for FLAC and DSD files.

I just drag the DSF files to Audirvana out of iTunes Integrated Mode. I must find time for your visit soon so I can show you.

Hi Steve

I have tried using the ipad with various screen sharing apps but its not really any good, slow and jerky, a bit like my love making apparently so she tells me

A mac book maybe the solution but thats a long way down my list. Hopefully the ipad app will be released soon.

Its like place your bets what will be released first, new Naim firmware or Audirvana ipad app.

Yes, but it sounds like you have your hands full with all the changes you are making at present.

Well tried that, very nice sound but a complete mess to operate. Oh well hoping that Audirvana app is released soon.

Are there any audio plugins for JRiver to replace it using core audio?
