Mail Scam Letter

Posted by: Mike-B on 23 May 2015

Hi all,  I expect we all get the e-mail scams that tell us an amount of money is in a deposit account & its waiting for you to contact us    ............

This morning I got a letter - a paper thingy - posted in UK with a Royal Mail SmartStamp.co.uk (business) stamp (£0.63) & the content along the same lines as above from a "Business Relations Manager" at China CITIC Bank, Hong Kong - the e-mail traces back to Vietnam BTW.

It seems a step change in that £0.63 has been spent to mail it, whereas the e-mails are free.   Its obviously costing the scammers money (strange) unless the stamp is a fake. (Royal Mail have it to investigate)

Its targeted on my family name - the link is the "deceased" has the same name - I have yet to hear from other family if they also have been mailed..

Anyone else getting these ???

Yes, I got one last year. Said pretty much the same as yours. Mine had a "stick on" paper stamp which certainly appeared to be genuine, even down to the phospher banding.  Did yours tell you that we should keep things confidential between ourselves because "he was a family man"?

Maybe the scammers have realised that most folks are aware of email scams, and think that a "real" letter and stamp would have a greater degree of authenticity?

Or maybe it was real. and I've thrown away the chance of untold riches .....oh buqqer, there goes my change of a Statement or that Canon 1200mm f/5.6 long lens that B&H in NYC have got - a snip at only $180,000

I hope you don't get too despondent now that you realize you've passed up the opportunity of a lifetime...

To me it looked like a photocopy - if so I'm surprised it passed thru the franking process,  my local PO also recon its a fake

I sent it all to RM FreePost Scam Mail

The letter scam is aimed at the elderly who don't have e-mail.
