Simon and Garfunkel Greatest Hits 24 bit

Posted by: dayjay on 23 May 2015

When I was in my teens, which was a very long time ago, a teacher played I am a rock by Simon and Garfunkel to us in an RE lesson and I loved it.  When I got home I discovered that my mum and dad had their greatest hits album and I discovered that I loved the whole album and have been listening to it ever since.  I've noticed that a 24 bit version has just come out which is a whopping £20. Has anyone, by any chance, had a chance to hear it and, if you had, was it worth the outlay?

David- I purchased the 24/192 version from HDTracks and it does sound very good.  I also purchased a couple of the individual albums and the tracks that overlap the two releases sound identical, which makes me believe they compiled the Greatest Hits from the new hi-res masters of the individual albums (makes sense, at least).  If you are a fan I doubt you will be disappointed in the sound or the purchase.

Thanks for the tip I have the new redbook versions and was already pleased with the quality - but will put it on my list.

I have the Paul Simon Ultimate Collection, a recent re-packaging in High Res. 3/4's are the older Simon and Garfunkel stuff.

I can definitely say that the High res version from Qobuz is excellent. I had forgotten just what good songs they were too.

Incidentally the high res re-masters of Graceland and Rhythm of The Saints are also good and both feature some genuinely interesting extra tracks. That is not always the case I find!

The PS Ultimate Collection is a nice album,  problem is - like many others - I have all the tracks already & some number of times over,  still bought it though.

I really do not understand what HDTracks are playing at, their pricing is way off

HDT - the 11 track 34:15 (mins) 96/24 is £16.00

Qobuz - 19 tracks 1:17:03 (hr:min) 96/24 is £13.39

When I had 10th grade English teacher one Friday she played I am a rock  and then asked a bunch of intense questions like can you be an island unto yourself?  Then the hymn with the slowly increasing Huntley news report about Vietnam. And a bunch more questions what does it mean.  A friend said she was telling you "think numbskulls THINK!!!

Man the things she taught and suspicion of politicians and the war, that would get her fired these days.

I've always loved S&G and Paul's solo works, he has clear vocals and wonderful lyrics.  I have seen him 3x live.  Great music especially when he's working with different groups.

He's a genius, I've been to lots of concerts, watched almost all my heroes, most of whom play rock, but I will always remember watching the two of them in Manchester several years ago.  Musically they were stunning but the biggest surprise was the atmosphere which was just so intense.  It was a true privalege to have been there
