Mu-so and Dune mediaplayer

Posted by: Matthijs on 24 May 2015

In setting up the Mu-so I came across a challenge for which I do not see a solution. Until last week I used a Dune Mediaplayer H1 (inside hdd NTFS formatted) for playing music and films. This mediaplayer is part of the network. The player itself does not have a UPnP server on board. That's the reason, I think, the Mu-so does not "see" the Dune.

Is there by any chance a way of using the Mu-so in comibination with the Dune? I'd be very glad to hear a solution.

Had a look about the web on this dune player, seems expensive for what it is. But what seems clear is its a client device not a server device.

On that basis you have one choice, physically connect an audio cable between it and the Mu-So.

Longer term perhaps consider something like a vortexbox.

I might be incorrect here, but google seems to suggest the dune should see UPNP but does not necessarily dish it out.

Good morning garyi,

Thank you for thinking in finding a solution! The Dune is as you said a client device, unfortunately..

I just tried an audio cable, an optical one between Mu-so and Dune but alas the Mu-so does not see the Dune. But I could misunderstand the function of the optical input. Maybe it is only to reinforce television sound input e.g.

One other thing I thought of could be using the usb input of the Mu-so. The tricky thing here could be the format the hdd is now i.e. NTFS. I could format the hdd to FAT32 but I am not quite sure if this conflicts in playing films from the hdd to the television. FAT32 has limitations as I understand.

Perhaps I should consider something like the vortexbox or a NAS.

You won't see the the dune from the muso, what you will have to do is use the dune to play  track. Presumably the dune then has an audio output which can be plugged into the muso.

In essence the naim app/muso in this context will be nothing more than a volume control.

It appears the Dune can connect to shares on a network, so perhaps consider getting a NAS, the dune and the musu could then get music from it.

Problem solved. As you rightly suggested the Dune audio exit can be setup. I can now use the optical in of the Mu-so. Music fills the room . Thanks for your help garyi!!
