Wow! This place seems dead at times ....

The forum ain't the hub of activity it was just years ago.
Maybe everyone is simply happy with their systems? Great if that's the case!
Or maybe I need to get a life?
Probably
FWIW
I'm fairly new and I love the conversations that i've seen. To me this board seems very active. I always see posts from @Harry, @mangomonkey, @Simon, @HungryHalibut, @DrMark, @graeme,@hook, @tonym etc.
And some of us even speak to each other!
I mainly miss the discussions and reviews of music. I always have appreciated the threads in which people discuss about their appreciation for certain albums, comparisons between different artist etc. This also has calmed down and is the most sorrow part. I still expect in the next months quite some activity around the new DR amps and comparisons with non DR versions up etc.... But indeed when I joint it was more juicy.......
I agree. The 'What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested?' thread might usefully be abbreviated to 'What are you listening to?' as it's often little more than a list. Likewise, in 'Listening chain challenge' people usually can't be bothered to explain the link, as suggested in Graeme's opening post. Maybe we're getting lazy, as it's so easy just to copy and paste an album cover.
I always feel like I'm being lazy because I don't post an album cover
You bunch of disrespectful bigots I'll have you know there is nothing wrong with my new head of hair...and rather fetching moustache
And some of us even speak to each other!
And some even visit each others homes and enjoy their systems.

Agreed. One of the best aspects of the forum for me has been meeting new friends. There are, despite some misconceptions, some fine people on this forum who will go out of their way to offer tremendous hospitality and help when required. A number of us usually get together at least a couple of times a year, some travelling a long distance, and we always have a great time.

We do indeed

When I was looking for you on a photo of a Naim event and you told me that you didn't look like your Avatar, that surprised and threw me.
However now I know that you may have been in disguise I'll have to have another peek to see if I can identify that fine head of hair, moustache and brown shirt.
Hardly surprising the number of holier than thou posts, and others requiring a scientific or mathematical degree or doctorate.
Ugh!!!!
........., and others requiring a scientific or mathematical degree or doctorate.
Too right... and what is wrong with that ?

Don't look too hard...
If we're all round each other's houses it would explain why mo one is in here.
Glad we got to the bottom of it.
Apart from me, stuck up here in the cold north west uk. I've yet to speak to anyone who lives within a hundred miles!
I really must get around the buying the DVD box set and reliving my childhood
5.....4.....3.....2.....1.............
I keep meaning to buy the Terrahawks Boxset. Far more adult humour than thunderbirds.

From your recommendation of Manchester area record shops I suspect you live in St Helens, but as I’m an adopted Wiganer we may as well live 100 miles apart.

Lol, yes I'm in lovely Haydock on the outskirts of St Helens and not too far from Wigan at all
You can't fool me, Simon - that is no mustache; it's a second set of those eyebrows installed a little lower.
The nerve...

I would only claim to be far less holy than most.
I think a number of reasons are at play that have already been touched on above. Posts about Statement level gear are perhaps interesting to read, but since I couldn't spend that much on a house let alone an audio system it is not a place where i can contribute in any meaningful way. I think people generally have less to spend, and a lack of new product in the attainable level of gear has also not been conducive to more discussion.
Silence is the sound of people saving money?
Don't forget its summer and school is out.
It wouldn't have anything to do with not being able to gain access to Internet forums in the work place.
Some of us would remember the pre-hoop.la days when the forum did indeed appear to be more active and I do think that things changed a little when the switch to hoop.la was made. I also think that people's relationship with the forum changes over time. When I first joined I was trying to absorb as much info as possible and was quite active and tended to take a lot of what I read as gospel. Eventually you realise that it is just someone else's opinion etc. plus, looking at my own relationship with the forum I tend to be more engaged and involved when I want to find out about new gear or am considering changes to my own set up. The core group of regular contributors also tends to shift over time, as do some of their names (eg, munch, Gale 401, music lover, mango monkey etc)
Some 'issues' like the 'What are you listening to' one are ongoing though. When I first joined the thread was simply called 'What are you listening to?' but was changed because a number of us found endless images of album covers completely un-inspiring. However changing the title of the thread is one thing, changing people's habits though is a completely different ball game.
One evening in October last year was particularly quiet (see Current visitors panel).
The thread title seemed appropriate...
Forum's changed considerably: when I first joined focus was music, my main interest. Now it's cables & networking. Personally, I play music with no network & use cables in box. Very happy with my system. So not much of interest to contribute. Sorry but long discussions on what piece of expensive wire sounds better doesn't grab my attention & think posts about magic Ethernet cables are .....
So tend to agree with OP.
What about a Never Mind the Cables Here's the Music thread .....
I am indeed becoming a grumpy old man
Hi Wat.
You did seem a bit more cheerful in the days, where you used to play with explosives. Some of us are using new cables to stay cheerful, simples ATB Peter

Funny when I read that from Dayjay that he was in north west of the UK, I had him in the Glasgow to Fort William area.. if we are talking Manchester area surely it is north west England.. But certainly not UK....... but it's many years since I studied geography.
