Wow! This place seems dead at times ....

The forum ain't the hub of activity it was just years ago.

Maybe everyone is simply happy with their systems? Great if that's the case!

Or maybe I need to get a life?

Probably

It's not about the number, but about the quality of the discussion :-) :-) and it can be a very high quality conversation once you start talking to yourself.

As mentioned, I also think the 30-day thread lock is an impediment to general forum use. It used to be you could use the search function and feed into an appropriate old topic. Now, you have to email an administrator and ask it to be unlocked, with limited time to respond or it automatically relocks. What a PITA  (and how many users are even aware of this?). That factor probably results in many of the "ugh! here we go again" topics.

I realize Naim has practical cost limits to storage space, but I really wish the locks could be eliminated. There's nothing in the locks for forum users and I believe that, especially on the streaming side, user contributions provide a valuable service for Naim that would otherwise have to be handled by their customer service.

Where has George W gone has he left again ?

I enjoyed his unique take on things.Although I think he had a bit of a funny turn on the statement has landed thread where he seemed to attack Darke Bear for his mediocre writing style.I have been reading the forum for 10 years now and Dark Bear is a bastion of knowledge for tweaking etc and I'm my opinion very eloquent with what he posts.

A classic George W was in the padded cell.Bradley Wiggins had just smashed the hour track record and George posts pics of his Carlton bike, seemed not appropriate there. No disrespect to George as  I enjoyed his posts.

I enjoy Pink Fish more as other brands are discussed more.Fair play to this forum the Vitus thread has run for ages and the Hugo.

I enjoy Adam Meridiths very dry cryptic comments

I only have a 01 tuner so don't post much in HiFi corner.

Joe, the thread lock performs a useful function.  It prevents old threads being resuscitated (often accidentally following a search) and then members replying to old queries.  However, I do agree that 30 days is probably too short so I am going to extend it to 60 and see how that goes.

Great news Richard! Thanks

Funny when I read that from Dayjay that he was in north west of the UK, I had him in the Glasgow to Fort William area.. if we are talking Manchester area surely it is north west England.. But certainly not UK....... but it's many years since I studied geography.

Glasgow and Fort William?  Pah, that's almost the South West!  I thought he meant Ullapool or Lochinver!

Oh dear.  Its a fair bit warmer here than it would be in Glasgow too.  My geography is non existent and I get lost at home.  I once left a meeting in Warrington and drove past the Trafford Centre on the way home to St Helens

It is easy - Suffolk means folk of south, Norfolk mean folk of north.

Draw a line across the country by continuing the border between these two counties and you'll have the dividing line.

Hope that helps

There's even a difference in the mitochondrial DNA separating the two!

(OK, OK, another post needing a scientific degree!)

Having been a member since 1999, although not under this username, I would agree the certainly have been significant changes. For generally seems much quieter. Also seems to be much less talk of vinyl these days, notwithstanding some LP 12 chat, despite the apparently prevailing trend.

It's a bit more complicated than that....

Haven't seen that one before ChrisSU, very good.

I wonder if there are similar examples from other countries?

Would be interesting to see their take on their countries.

Despite only lurking around this forum for less than a year, it has really entertained me in that time. I've never contributed to any other forum, and have done little poking around anywhere else, but it seems to me that the level of friendliness, wit, and intelligence....usually, in the ramblings here is rare.

I too have been thinking it seems a little quiet.  Most new threads seem to be related to some poor soul trying get to grips with the comms between their I-thing, NAS, Muso etc.  And that's fine, and I am happy to help, on the rare occasions where I understand the question and know the answer.  However, I much prefer the debates about really great kit, or indeed music.  When I joined the Hugo was the really hot topic, and continued to be for many months.  And although that product is not for me (not because of SQ), I still found the threads fascinating, and a lot of the tangents and spin-off topics were equally interesting.

Through hanging around here I have discovered countless artists and albums I may never have discovered otherwise.  I've seen friendships develop, massive fall-outs and strops, and gradually learned how little I know about anything at all, never mind how musically illiterate I am.  It's certainly been educational.  I really hope activity picks up soon.

There are numerous US-centred versions, e.g:

Actually living in East Anglia (Suffolk and Norfolk.. And yes inbred farmers feels apt sometimes, and the chavs and the dragons have increasing numbers of holiday homes..), you tend to have the view of the East and then everywhere else; West, North and South, it all becomes a bit irrelevant as every where else seems like at least 2 to 3 hours away.. We have no motorways just two major trunk roads, the A12 and the A14 .. But at least to London there is a reasonably fast rail link .. if you are lucky.

Of course East Anglia is the home of the Iceni celts.. under Boudica who actually led the celtish revolt against the Romans ... And later Suffolk became the centre of the Saxon Kingdom under Raedwald, not too far from me at Sutton Hoo... But other than that... Well the Pilgrim Fathers left from this area to help set up America......

Some excellent geography pointers posted, I feel much more capable of recognizing where I am lost now

As we are mapping the world, let me also add a viewpoint to the discussion, the Dutch golden age.....

Judging by the locations, maybe the Richter scale?
