Unitiserve 2TB Reliability

Posted by: CSI_Basel on 21 June 2015

Hi All

My unititserve has gone back to my dealer and has been diagnosed as needing a replacement hdd. My dealer has offered to upgrade it to 2TB with the download folder.

My question is ' is the 2TB Unitiserve anymore reliable than the original 1TB?'

Cheers guys!

When my ns01 was in for repair last year, I was offered the 2 tb upgrade. Based on Price I did not do it. I could get a lot more storage on my nas for the Money, and you need a manual backup of the downloads folder on the 2 tb disk anyway. This is not done by the automated backup.

I had my 1TS 'serve upgraded to 2TB, and it died after the upgrade.  So based on my sample size of 1 I would say no.  Root cause of my failure was power supply related, though I did end up with a new HDD.

The dealer price is almost 40% off the normal price so I said Yes.  Also it means the warranty is extended so thats good.

Naim should issue a firmware update that makes the hdd hibernate if not used for a while as it makes no sense for the hdd to be always active....  My Synology Nas does this.

This is my second hdd failure in 3 yrs!
