Tellurium Q Black in da house
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 23 June 2015
Postie arrived this morning with a cardboard box containing 2 4m lengths of Tellurium Q Black speaker cable, bought from James of this fine Forum. Even with the PMC twenty.23's nasty biwire links reinstalled they are sounding very good compared to the A5. They are not at all dull, like the Chord Odyssey I tried before, and seem to provide the drive and engagement of A5 while wiping away a layer of mush and providing greater clarity and insight. They are smaller than the A5 and much floppier, which makes them easier to handle, which is a welcome improvement. I've ordered some Q Black biwire links so that I can make a proper assessment, but initial impressions are very positive.
I'm pleasantly surprised that it has so many fans. Perhaps everyone is now happy to come out as disloyal.
That was my point really Nigel. I have the SL speaker cable and yes it's a great improvement over NACA5, but you are making me wonder whether I should have tried other alternatives. I did try the Sarum didn't like it at the time, but who knows?
Do you mean that people will start admitting that they wear TelluriumQ under their trousers..?
Whatever floats your boat.
With regard to the comment about a loose fit at the amp end, I wonder if it's worth fitting the standard Naim speaker plugs at this end? I know some dealers did/do this with Chord cables and Naim amps.
It's fine now I've opened up the Z plugs a little, all nice and snug.
Now they've been running for a few hours they are even better, and there's still the jumpers to come, which I know from experience will lift the sound further. Playing Kate Rusby now, the sound is just great, and so much better than with the A5, even with the PMC biwire links in place. Yes they cost more than the A5 but the £20 a metre difference is a bargain for what you get. And at used prices of course, even more so.
.....
It's very interesting how the cables allow you to hear the layers of a recording without seeming to pull the music apart, which is something I've heard Chord Signature do on occasion. It will also be interesting to hear the difference the jumpers make once they arrive, although they will be new of course and will need time to run in.
...just like NAC S1?
enjoy

Glad you like them HH , I've had mine with my PMC's for a couple of years now and have no itch to change . You'll be happy with the jumper cables too .
Enjoy .
Peter .
HH, I was eyeing a pair of pre-owned 3M pair Tellurium Q Black just when you were posting about yours incoming. Reading the comments here I just purchased them and should have them in a few days just in time for the 4th of July long weekend. I hope my Nait 5si and Spendors love them after the NACA5.
Sounds like you are enjoying yours and thanks for giving me the push I needed to get stupid and spend some money.![]()
HH, I did a long demo with TQ Black and NAC A5 a few months ago. After everything I'd read on here I was convinced I'd go for the A5.
Once I'd spent a couple of weeks with the cables though the TQ was the clear winner.
i bought 2 off 4m lengths and jumpers and I've been a happy bunny ever since.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on what extra the jumpers give you though. Mine went straight in at the same time as the cable and I've had no desire to take them out for a comparison.

Probably a good indication to sit pat ![]()

O dear, I hope you could afford them! They are a great bargain second hand and I hope you like them.
One other advantage of the Q Black is that the chesty sound on male presenters' voices on Radio 4 has gone, to be replaced with something infinitely more natural.
I'm hoping the jumpers will arrive today of tomorrow and then I'll be able to see what they do. They cost £85, which is quite a lot, but hopefully they will be worth it. The leads are currently plugged into the treble sockets, which is how I plan to leave things once the jumpers arrive.
I can afford them and got a great deal on the used pair. I feel slightly stupid sometimes when I've got a perfectly good pair of NACA5 or another great performing cable and feel compelled to tweak and tweak.
But that's what our hobby is in the end, a quest for the best performing system within our budgets. Or sometimes outside of our budget on occasion.![]()
I'm sure you will keep us posted on the jumpers. Thankfully my Spendor A6 don't allow for bi-wiring, but I am on the list for a demo of ProAc Response D Two.
I have the perfect strategy for avoiding cable envy. When we moved house and had my new setup installed we had the speaker cables routed through the walls - so cost to change is extremely high!
Sadly I did not get the electronics custom installed into a wall and have enough space in the rack to add a 250DR to my SuperUniti. My "once in a lifetime" expensive hifi purchase is now looking like a 250 / 272 / XPS journey.
Even from cold, the jumpers are making a big difference, with the sound now more coherent and solid. Jazz just sounds a bit more jazzy, if that makes sense. A very worthwhile improvement, and it should get even better over the next few days.
I'm so pleased I took a punt on them.
Spending more is a hearing aid. It enables us to hear sometimes what would be inaudible at a lesser cost.
These Telluriums are probably a good compromise between I want and I can.
I think that's right. I'd never be able to justify or afford the Super Lumina at £300 a meter, which is double what I paid for my pair of 4m Telluriums, or should that be Telluria. They really are decisively better than the A5, IMHO of course.
Well having been away from this thread for a a day or two it's remarkable to discover how many fans of TQ speaker cable have emerged. I'm a Tellurium fan myself and it took the (admittedly expensive) SL speaker cables to persuade me to move away from them. It seems only a little while ago that admitting to using and liking anything other than NACA speaker cables on here was received a little like belching in public, eliciting the equivalent of disapproving frowns so this is a pleasing development.

It also was not that long ago that new cables from Chord were frowned upon due to alleged , excessive run-in time. A bit funny now due to recent developments

Oops...ebay just got the better of me!
Hope no-one else was bidding.

It's amazing what new pleasures you can find when you don't go with the flow...

You're a tease, Graeme
I moved on from Chord Odyssey too, finding someone to buy it for about half of what I paid. So a reasonably priced trial.
I moved on to the most unreasonably priced speaker cable that Naim sell. It's flexible!
Been following this thread and it seems to that there are quite a few movers from Odyssey. So, as the
Epic is Odyssey based, I was wondering there are folk who have moved from Epic TQ Black?

It's HH that is the tease! Oh well, nothing ventured.

I've never been called a tease before! Did you buy some Q Black as well then, Graeme? If so, don't forget the jumpers.

Jumpers on my list HH. Got three 5m runs.
It was a good price as I think that folks were put off bidding by the three runs. If it is better then by the time I divest myself of the A5 and spare Q Black then the 'upgrade' investment will be pretty light.
Monday or Tuesday for delivery.
