Tellurium Q Black in da house

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 23 June 2015

Postie arrived this morning with a cardboard box containing 2 4m lengths of Tellurium Q Black speaker cable, bought from James of this fine Forum. Even with the PMC twenty.23's nasty biwire links reinstalled they are sounding very good compared to the A5. They are not at all dull, like the Chord Odyssey I tried before, and seem to provide the drive and engagement of A5 while wiping away a layer of mush and providing greater clarity and insight. They are smaller than the A5 and much floppier, which makes them easier to handle, which is a welcome improvement. I've ordered some Q Black biwire links so that I can make a proper assessment, but initial impressions are very positive.

HH you have a lot to answer for I am about to join the club I've just ordered with burn in service 2X4m and 2X jumper pairs arrive mon or tue, I was going to go for some SL but just can't justify the cost on my system, not saying they are not any good far from it but I've decided better for me to go for a new 250-DR and sell on my 250-2 so that will be me done for the foreseeable, how many times have I said that.

I have just borrowed a seven metre pair from my dealer. I'll report my thoughts.

OMG - what have I done?!

They are terrific though, and the jumpers have made a huge difference. One thing I noticed at the beginning was a change to the imaging and thought I might need to move the speakers. But with two days on the jumpers (I had it playing all day yesterday) the soundstage is now rock solid and it sounds just fine with the speakers where they are.

As a fellow Epic/Signature link user, I would also be interested in any comparisons

I used to have Odyssey for a year or so, but ultimately found it too reserved and uninvolving. It presents the music in an almost academic way, but without the passion. I then went back to A5, which brought the passion but also a layer of muddle. Now, with the Q Black, I get the passion as well as the insight, so the best of both worlds. It's really rather good, and still improving.

Thanks Graeme.  Looks like a personal preference/system match thing between the Epic and TQ Black.

I bought Tellurium Green 2 years ago when that name was just about making waves and I was amazed how good the sound was , then 6 weeks later my dealer called to apologies as he sold me the Green for the price of the Black, so I ended up with the Black and although I noticed slight decrease in Base extension the Black  still sounds great and I'm still happily using them

now this thread reminded me of buying the Q black Jumpers, thanks

They will make such a difference...

Mine arrive Tuesday.  I'll see if I can hold off wiring in the TQB tomorrow until I have them.

Jumpers on my list HH. Got three 5m runs.

It was a good price as I think that folks were put off bidding by the three runs.  If it is better then by the time I divest myself of the A5 and spare Q Black then the 'upgrade' investment will be pretty light.

Monday or Tuesday for delivery.

Aaaaggh, I was bidding on those whilst I was at work and missed the end. They jumped up at the end pretty sharpish and went over what I had in mind as a maximum anyway. Wasn't willing to go over as I only really need 2 x 4m so I would have been overbuying so to speak.

Enjoy them - it's back to ebay for me.

Thanks. I guessed the overbuying issue would put folks off a bit. Still 50 bids at the end...My sniper technique is getting pretty good!

Still await the jumpers but the improvement over the holy grail NACA5 is immediately obvious. Very nice and 'clean' sounding - like they are not there somehow.

Very pleased and thanks HH.

Excellent! Just you wait till they have been running for a couple of days, despite being preloved. And when the jumpers arrive the sound will take another big step forward.

Mine arrived yesterday and I barely got them installed but listened to a reference song of mine and WOW what a difference. Cleaned up the mids and high end significantly. Can't wait to get more of an ear on them tonight.

Thanks HH!

I submit again my previous question, now that we have more comments from happy owners of Tellurium Q Black: any particular suggestion concerning the minimum length requested to "optimize" performaces (if requested, obviously...)?

thanks and regards,

Stefano

Your thread has reminded me that I still have my chord signature jumpers installed!!!

Reading your comments I need to change them to Q black as well but I am a bit confused what you get for £85.

My Audiovectors are tri wire so how many 'lots' do i need?

Thanks,

Andy.

Posted on: 30 June 2015 by hungryhalibut
You'd need two lots.

Well Mine have also arrived today with 48 hours burn in on a conditioning machine still awaiting my 2 pairs of jumpers for the 20-26s first impressions (with A5 Jumpers) nice clean and detailed sound with more air, a veil has been lifted, so far only got to listen to 1 track as work beckons will post further this eve but thanks to HH so far so good.

Its great that these TQ cables are finally getting the credit they deserve and more people are realising you can achieve a significant gain over NACA5 without spending £300 a metre . I demoed them against NACA5 at a Naim dealer and was impressed enough to hand over £400ish of my hard earned . I have since read countless times on this wonderful and informative forum the dismissal of any non Naim cable and people often being lambasted at the mere suggestion of using anything else  .

Thankfully with the successful arrival of the SL cables and now one of our most respected members HH being delighted with his TQB speaker cables opinions seem to be relaxing , people seem to be more open minded and able to enjoy the joys of a speaker cable costing a mere £50 a metre .

I am totally pro Naim and will try the SL interconnect when the opportunity arrises but I think companies  like TQ should be applauded because they give us other options and are certainly designed with Naim in mind . You never know people will be trying TQ power cables next.. ????

My pair are unused HH so my impressions relate to a 'new' cable. I am honestly surprised by the striking improvements in clarity and presence straight from the off. NACA5 I guess suited the Olive sound signature.

These are a treat!

One of our most respected forum members eh? That's very kind of you. I'll confess to being a bit of an A5 diehard, and having tried Odyssey and being underwhelmed I thought I'd stay with A5 for years to come, as the Lumina cables are just too pricey. I only got the Q black because they were £150 and I knew that if I didn't like them I could sell them on at no loss.

That I think they are just brilliant is absolutely not the outcome I was expecting. Sometimes it's good to have low expectations!
