HRT MicroStreamer v AQ DragonFly
Posted by: Tony2011 on 24 June 2015
I've been looking at the these two portable headphone amps to use with an HD700. Does anyone have personal experience of the HRT? I know a couple of people here are very fond of the DragonFly and wondered if they have tried/compared different ones. Any other recommendations in particular anything that can stream over 96kHz?
Thanks in advance.
I really like my Dragonfly, it's ludicrously small, which is a bonus for me as I often need to travel light. Setup is very simple, and it really does make listening through headphones on a Macbook enjoyable. I've no experience of any alternatives, but if hi-res is a priority, the Meridian Explorer might be worth checking out as it claims to play up to 24/192.

Thank you, Chris. The ME seems an excellent alternative to the HRT and the DF which has had some rave reviews since its launch but there are so many new DACs out there that it is difficult to decide.
If possible, I'd also take a look at the M2Tech HiFace, which goes to 32/384 - not that it's needed. It reviews well, and my own experience of M2Tech is favourable.....
I read that the problem the M2 seems to have is that it does not work effortlessly with the Mac as the program needs a bit of tweaking, maybe it was a first generation issue which has now been improved on. Will delve deeper though and thanks for the recommendation .
Thanks, Wat. Added to the list.
I'd not seen that one before, Wat.
Looks very intriguing, and a potentially great product........

I'd be careful with the HRT Tony. There can be side effects.
