Anyone in Southsea tomorrow?

If so, my son's band, The Raptures, are playing at the Wedgewood Rooms. They've got a new drummer and a new singer, and new material that they won't divulge, so hopefully it will be good. It's a battle of the bands - they are all 17 (apart from the drummer, who's just sat his GCSEs, but is bloody good) and there are nine bands in three hours from 7 till 10. It's only £4. To see these young bands gets you to the heart of what music is all about.

I've seen some great bands at the Wedge, which is an iconic Pompey venue, so to have the lad on stage will be just wonderful.

If anyone is interested in their previous incarnation, just type the raptures the cellars into You Tube. Our Henry is playing bass.

If anyone goes, come and say hello, I'll be the one drinking beer from a Naim mug.

Bit far for me, but good luck to all the bands. Have fun!

Oh, I don't know. Direct flight from Vancouver to Heathrow and then a taxi. I'll buy you a beer if you make it!

Not arf. Sorry I can't be there, now living in France where live music is 'insipide' in a nice way. Last bands I saw at the Wedge were Dr. Alex Patterson (of The Orb), McAlmont & Butler, Horrorpops (Swedish Rockabilly!) Good luck to the lad, the world needs a new Bass player to step into some large shoes!

I don't think he'll be playing prog rock though! Have a shufti at You Tube. He plays my Yamaha bass, £170 off eBay. One day he'll get a Fender Jazz. Maybe.

Will do. When I can turn the sound up on the iPad. It's 11.15 pm and the better half has nodded off (in bed of all places).

It's true! As is Akram Stores, a wonderful source of Asian groceries.

We had a good night - the band were on top form, and while they didn't win, they did really well. The evening was soured somewhat because one of the other band member's dad bought them all a beer after their performance, and being underage, security threw them all out, apart from our Henry who was quick enough to pass his beer to someone else and not be spotted. It was such a shame as for the last hour Henry's mates and the other parents had all gone home. Clearly it was a foolish thing for the other parent to do, as the Wedgewood Rooms' licensing conditions are so tight they cannot take risks. Ah well, he'll be 18 in October.
