n-stream won't work with unitiqute FW 2.0

Posted by: my_naim on 03 April 2011

I am trying to get n-stream to work with my unitiqute but it keeps telling me it will only work with FW 3.0 or above, can anyone tell me how I can upgrade my gear with newer firmware. Thanks

Talk to your dealer; it will either be done by them or return to Naim.

UQ ships with FW 3.0 so this should be something else...

my FW information

This looks like pre-production firmware–was this a distributor or retailer demo unit?

Please contact your retailer to update your unit.

bought my qute from the distributor in Hong Kong, is my qute different from the actual production unit in term of hardware? can I update FW by myself like computers? Thanks

My-naim, I suggest you talk to and take it back to radar. They will update it for you.

Just to be sure - can you check this under Setup on the unit itself. I was fooled by the info provided on the web interface, even your is really strange, but to be sure - in my case (and I thing this is standard) the web interface shows:

Firmware Date:     2010-08-17
Firmware Version:     2.0.23.10733

Anyway in setup menu it is shown as 3.0.00

I asked Naim support if this is a bug in the web interface but the answer was "the web interface shows the version info in a different way"...

I don't think so, because I was in the same situation after I thought I got a wrong FW - I only contacted my dealer and he provided me the 3.0 FW. After that you can try to upgrade it by yourself - you'll need a Windows PC with serial port and RS-232 cable (crossed). Connect the PC to the RS-232 port on the UQ and start the provided binary - I think that there was installation instruction inside the FW zip file, but that is - it checks the serial ports and initiates the FW transfer to the unit. I haven't done it, because short before the transfer of the FW I saw that I'm at the right level and stopped the installer on the comm port selection screen. I think the most difficult part is to find a PC with comm port and RS-232 cable nowadays :-)

Okli, please don't advice him on updating himself, there are other issue. My_naim, please contact radar and they will be happy to sort it out for you. The reason is that they will also need to apply Chinese character patch for it to display your language I believe. It seems they need to follow some sequence to install it. Better let them do it. It is better to let them do it for you then risk it.

I was not aware about the complications arising from the different language support and I agree with you that the best way will be to bring / send it to dealer.
