Adding Album Cover Art Unitiserve
Posted by: Goonerdude on 06 April 2011
Just got a Unitiserve but some of the album cover art is missing when ripped from the unit,
Is there a way of adding it after ripping,
I'm using the N-serve app & the viewing the Unitiserve via a flash browser on a mac,
Rihanna album Loud comes up with no artwork which is strange !
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
Yes, the desk top client works well for me .
Every now and then I also come across an album where cover art is incorrect or even missing. It's not really a fault of the units themselves. The UnitiServe and HDX are looking in the AMG database for metadata and cover art when ripping an album. When a certain album isn't found in the AMG database, the units will look in a second database called FreeDB. The latter has unfortunately no cover art.
For the moment, the DTC is the only way to add/change cover art. I believe that here on the forum it was once mentioned that Naim intends to make all of the DTC functionality available via the web interface...

Can you not just dump a .jpg file into the relevant place on the hard-drive labelled folder.jpg? Or am I missing something?
and mess with the top secret ..nay magic UnitiServe patent ripping database engine - unthinkable

Is that a yes or a no????
That's obviously a "no". Don't mess with the internals of your serve. Okay, the DTC can be a bit clumsy sometimes, but at least you don't have to use it very often ...

Doesn't that mean you have to buy Windoze for running just one application - I've come to the conclusion that the UnitiServe will never be an option for somebody like me, living in a Windoze and relatively Flash free universe.
I really just need a renderer with a decent S/PDIF out for my Naim DAC - no inbuilt DAC or ripper required - a simple little device that uses NFS to access my music store and plays files stored in AIFF and supports Airplay.
However, I have to use Windows at work but it doesn't cross the threshold at home.

I used to hold similar views but am ambivalent now. That it works so well is more important to me than what operating system it uses.
Of the 200 or so CDs I've ripped, the AMG database covers about 90% of them. It's enough that I'm not overly worried about the few that aren't there, but my anally retentive side would like to get to 100%!
It's slightly odd that some quite recent & mainstream artwork isn't there, such as the two most recent Elbow albums.
dBpoweramp checks out 5 online databases and gives you a choice between them - you have little to lose downloading a free trial to see if it can help you with the other 10%. If it is just album art you are wishing to hunt down, www.albumart.org can be useful.
Bliss works well for me - with some gentle prodding but sometimes a little searchingfor, saving and dropping errant cover.jpgs into the appropriate folders is needed - unless of course it is a UnitiServe protected share - and then you're stuffed.
