Upgrade for FLAC support at USB input for Naim Dac

Posted by: Sourav Mazumder on 06 April 2011

I saw a thread saying that the s/w upgrade is not working. Is it still not working ?

I want to try out some HiRes music through the USB input.

Regards,

Sourav

Sourav,

               check this post link.

Paul Stephenson will be announcing it's progress.

To quote him:

"Update due soon will advise."

Hi Sheffield,

Thanks for your response.

Actually I saw that thread and then as wondering what is the update on the progress.

Without this patch I don't have anyway to try HiRes music as my streamer is Sonos which currently suffers from the 16/48 limitation. So little impatient at this point of time.

Regards,

Sourav

This works but not flawless. You still get clicking noise every 1-2 minutes. I hope there will be another update soon.

If you didn't apply the recent update, then converted to WAV just works fine.

...yes, and FLAC wouldn't work at all...

I think the purpose of updating is, that everything is working fine. Or is this a strange expectation?

Fortunately I've not tried the s/w upgrade yet. So can try the wav file.

However, can anyone let me know the right software to convert flac to .wav without hanging the frequency ?

Obviously looking for some free downloadable software as I'm still in experimental phase. Probably if things work properly I'll buy dbpoweramp.

dBPoweramp also has a free version you can use.

I think it is the best one around

Look here for differences between free and licensed versions

Aleg,

Thanks a lot. It worked. Also tried some hires .wav download from naim label site and L2. Sounds great.

Still waiting for the final patch for FLAC to hear the difference between FLAC and .wav sound of hires.

Regards.

There are no release notes in this DAC update.

Do I have to have this update if I do not need to play FLAC thru USB?

What are the other changes made in this firmware release? It seem pretty significant as the instructions says that I will not be able to return to the previous version...

Do I need to first ascertain what firmware version I have on the DAC if it's never been updated?  Can I just go ahead and install the update?
