dBPoweramp adds uncompressed FLAC
Posted by: Aleg on 07 April 2011
Just read that dBPoweramp ripper has added in its latest beta of R14.1 (which is to be released soon) the following option
"also includes a FLAC Uncompressed encoding option (which stores audio uncompressed, for those who want WAVE PCM but with better ID Tagging)."
Interesting option for those who want extensive tagging but also prefer uncompressed WAV
I see it now - the comparisons between uncompressed/compressed flac...
I'm willing to bet the uncompressed flac sounds better.

Frank.

Aleg, thanks for the heads up......
Could be the new ripping format for me......have been ripping in WAV for a little since you advised about tagging capability which can be read correctly by J River. The FLAC gives much more cjoice in terms of players though
Agreed. Sounds interesting. Could turn out to be the best of both worlds. Thinking ahead, but does anyone know if it will be possible to batch convert compressed FLAC to uncompressed FLAC?
Just one thing regarding the Uncompressed FLAC... I tried it on some Rolling Stones 24-88, but the NDX refused to play it as "unrecognized file format".
Tried playing it also on Foobar and Winamp: same thing.
Am I doing something wrong, or is the DBPoweramp Audio Player the only one that can play them (with the appropriate codec) ?
I had no problem playing a ripped file nor a converted (compressed to uncompressed) on Mediacentre, Foobar or my PopcornHour A100.
SO I gues something went wrong in your rip / convert.

Perception is a beautiful thing...you can never be wrong.
Thanks for the heads up Aleg.

The beta will not expire until November 2011.
I've just tried it out and I think that FLAC Uncompressed rip sounds better ... then again it could be placebo effect!
Anyone else tried it out?
Anyone else tried it out?
No, will wait until the final is released.
Can’t quite make out the likely difference between this setting and the already present option of 0 (zero) compression; aren’t they the same?
Will be interesting to find out.
Hello Aleg
Thanks for that.
It just goes to show you can’t assume anything in this game; but it is interesting.
