Arcam rdac wireless

Hi I have an all naim system but prefer my turntable for serious listening, as my cdx2 is the best cd player for the money I had considered a hdx as I like the convenience that it brings but my cdx2 slaughtered it until an added dac went on. The conversation led to ndx etc but my funds don't allow for the whole set up Inc rip server etc. So I borrowed an arcam rdac for a laugh!!! I am using it wireless as I was told it was better?? I'm astonished how good it is for the price! It's so differently voiced from the naim it took a while to get used too but the level of detail and depth like vinyl was what most shook me! It's a tad soft in places but very musical. But thus leaves the dilemma I love using my iPhone to control it but it's not naim and I can see myself using it a lot. I don't want the hdx without a dac (poss) and ndx seems a way off without all and sundry adding to cost! I want a middle solution I love the dac I love the iPhone I love the storage any other ideas before I buy this bloody cheap machine and regret it!!!

Mark,

You clear enjoy the experience of the Arcam DAC.   And you save a few dollars in the process. A good thing, no ?

Yes I suppose so! It would keep my wife happy for sure. I suppose it's just keeping the pc on all the time? I would be tempted to buy another pc just for the iTunes to keep things separate, it's all cheaper than a hdx but not so cool lol.

Keep the Arcam, get a cheap netbook or laptop - small hundreds. Get ripping, enjoy your streamed music, who knows what the next year or two will bring to computer-based audio, and who knows where some money might turn up from.

Didn't work after using a Ethernet hardrive? Too slow!! Going for the hdx as it's all I need specifically as if I want the best the vinyl goes on

I would suggest to seriously consider the NDX and add a XPS later to improve it massively. Cheaper then HDX but will sound better. You can get equally good rips from a good computer software or even iTunes. A Mac mini can serve the data to NDX very efficiently and can be tucked well away from the main HiFi. The biggest downside of the HDX is the computer inside it. Unlike the audio electronics inside, it will be obsolete very quickly and/or will be too expensive to keep it updated. ASenna04

I agree to a point but i have spent enough already and it does what I need ie it rips perfectly ( the naim server is £2000 ) it has a built in hard drive ..convenient, I can add a dac and power supply if needed and it will have Internet radio in June and best of all I can get the latest spec without the 1tb hardrive for £3000 so it has legs even if I used it as a ripper later on. Also it's a server so I cam stream round the house! I love the ndx but I would want it all ie the server and dac etc and it all adds up! I've spent £14k already and the wife wants a new bedroom suite.
