Emotional responses to Naim

"Love me or hate me, but spare me your indifference."
Libbie Fudim

No clue who Ms. Libbie is, but I like her quote, and it makes me think of Naim.

Is there another audio manufacturer that has two forums, one for lovers and another for haters?   Post a "should I purchase an upgrade" question here, and get dozens of owners extolling its sonic virtues.   Post the same question over at PFM, and be made to feel like an idiot for even contemplating such an absurd move!

There are so many great components and speakers out there.  And yet, this brand seems almost unique in its ability to inspire passion...

Why is that?

It's very much like the anti-Microsoft crowd. None of those folks have any direct experience with the company or its staff other than owning a few of their products like the rest of us yet they spew vitrol as if Bill Gates and staff personally wronged them. Plain and simple, some folks are just whack jobs.

If you invest in naim at whatever level - and even "entry level" is big money for most - and then visit the forum, you will be told quite soon that you must up-grade because what you have is not good enough.

On another forum you will be ridiculed for spending so much on such a poor system and advised to have it modified at even more expense, or to buy something completely different.

Somewhere lies the truth - and what that is must be for the buyer to decide.

That is not true.

Would you like me to provide links to several hundred sites where you'll see this behavior?

More often than not, all of the above is true. However, most of us have the confidence and ability to make decisions for ourselves. Therefore, if an upgrade is beyond your means yet you do not have the ability to resist or any Tom, Dick or Harry can convince you to do something against your will such as upgrade a piece of Naim  gear or jump off a cliff, perhaps you should give up the internet altogether and seek therapy instead.

I'm not sure why this is but many Internet audiophiles are quick to blame anyone but themselves for their own choices and decisions. How can someone "blame" a manufacture for providing choices in their product line or even see this as a negative? Bizarre...
