Sad news just reported on the BBC news. I am sure she will be remembered fondly by many forum members now in their forties, and also to a new younger generation for her spin off series on CBBC.
She 'had cancer for some time' according to the BBC news website.

Very sad, I've just heard. She was the very first (of many!) assistants that I fancied. I was around 7 or 8 at the time she first appeared.
I didn't realise she was ill.

Well, I'm considerably older than my 40s ...
She will be sadly missed. I believe there are some episodes "already in the can" for the what would have been the next season of "Sarah Jane Adventures". Hopefully they will still be broadcast.
