HDX SSD Backup

Posted by: Eugene on 28 June 2015

Hello, Recently I've made an upgrade of HDX to HDX SSD. I've made a backup store in NAS and when I enter Manual Backup Settings in DTC the only source Drive I see is "E:". Then I press "start" button and get a message "d:\music does not exist". It seems that HDX trys to copy music from its internal SSD drive (Er D and apparently it is empty. Is there a way to make a backup from external NAS music Store?

Have you totally redone your backups?  If your HDX software was not totally wiped . . . you may be trying to use a backup set up for your old drive on your new SSD drive (??)

In any event, Naim support will surely help you get sorted if the forum members cannot!

I'm sure HDX was totally wiped. When it was returned from the service center it had no old data. Even the version of the system sofware was different.

If you now have an HDX SSD then you have nothing to back up as there will be no music stored on the internal drive.

You should set the backup location (you did use the HDX to back itself up and not just do a Windows copy?) as a music store and then your HDX SSD will be able to see and access that music as it should.

Cheers

Phil, 100% agreed.

I think Eugene believes that there is something to backup.

Eugene, if you want to backup your NAS, then you can use the NAS Backup software and copy all music over to an external drive. I do so to have a backup in a different room. And keep in mind that you NAS - given 2 hard drives - already holds a RAID system type copy protecting your data.

Ok, thank you for the answer. As I understood it is not possible to make automatic backup from one external music store to another (e.g. from one NAS or physical HDD to another). So what is the function of a backup option in SSD version of HDX? Or this option is present in SSD simply because of the common software platform with a standard HDX and it shouldn't be used in SSD?

You can use the Backup functionality to back up your playlists that are stored on the SSD serve but that's about it...

Ok. Thank you. Now it's clear.
